The Palfrey At New Inn — Restaurant in Amber Valley

One star. This, unfortunately is what I am compelled to rate this restaurant and this is without even sampling their food. The reason for this abominable rating is based solely on customer service alone, conducted by one single person. I don’t have a name, just the distinguishable feature of top knot (need I say more). The situation is thus: we decided to come to The Palfrey to celebrate our anniversary. We were seated in front of the bar, where the aforementioned person decided to drop numerous F-bombs rather loudly on shift within earshot of customers as we deciphered the various QR codes. When we asked him about the main menu his response was abrupt and curt and he basically said that we had ticked the casual dining option... Now, I can’t verify I did this and I can’t retrace my steps in the booking process as the online booking system is no longer working (down to lockdown? I don’t know) but being told TWICE “that’s not my problem”, doesn’t really contribute towards a pleasant evening or what is acceptable as customer service. When we stated that we weren’t happy with the casual dining menu, he snidely stated something to the effect of ‘good luck with finding somewhere this late at night before lockdown!’ We took this as our cue to leave as he evidently made our presence feel unwelcome. Thankfully we did find an alternative restaurant and had a much more pleasant evening with better service...
