Last Monday Bank - Holiday ( 31st of May ) Myself and some of my family & friends came along to the “Shepherds Rest “‘ as we heard so many great things about this wonderful 17th Century building / Public house / Restaurant It was a beautiful sunny afternoon / evening Our table was booked for 1600hrs As we entered the grounds we were welcomed by a young waitress who quite kindly said that there was a table spare in the garden if we would like to have a drink and study the menu as we waited for our meal and also kindly said ( even though the weather was Amazing ) If it’s too warm out here, you can have a table inside where it’s nice and cool. I absolutely love good customer service. This was Absolutely amazing customer service!! Whilst we were enjoying our cool drinks and the outside ambiance of the Shepherds Rest ... we collectively couldn’t get over just how good the background music was , by a wonderful young man who was receiving applause every now and then ... by playing guitar and singing live which was so nice on such a tranquil evening... Read moreCurry night on the Wednesday. If you’re looking for a curry drenched in tomato soup & served with soggy rice, this is the place to be. On arrival, we had to retrieve the menu ourselves, after asking the staff numerous times. We had a table booked for 10 people, & we had 1 menu on the table. What was extremely disappointing is that I received a call from Shepherds Rest in the afternoon asking me if we’d be ordering off the main menu or having the curry night, I advised majority will be ordering off the main menu but some may have a curry. So, when the waitress came to take our order, she advised there was no ciabatta’s… why were we not informed of this on arrival? Majority of the party wanted one of the ciabatta’s off the main menu. This was extremely disappointing that we were not informed that they’d ran out of ciabatta’s, as I’m sure if we were told, we would have left. The waitress had to take our order 3 times… 3 times, 2 different waitresses & still managed to get the order wrong. Service was shocking. The curry tasted like chicken in tomato soup, with a side of soggy rice & a half decent naan bread, that wasn’t just my opinion that was 6 other people’s as well. The dishes came out incorrectly, the chips were submerged in oil, the ‘baked ham’ was incredibly dry. This was the worst meal I have ever had from this place, when Barlow’s owned the place it was divine but it’s massively gone down hill now. I personally won’t be returning & neither will the rest of the party. As having Indian in my ethnicity, the way they made the curry was incredibly insulting & no I didn’t go to the pub for a curry, it was the only reasonable priced item on the menu. FYI, chicken tikka masala from spoons is more tasty compared to the monstrosity I tried last night & that’s really...
Read moreWalked down here with my mate. Said we should get a beer and food here cos it’s always dead and we felt bad for them.
Ordered two pints and got a menu. Asked if they would do chip cobs cos we weren’t after a full meal. Young girl behind the bar said no, said they were on the lunch menu and they’d ran out. I asked if they had chips and bread and they did but couldn’t do it. Ended up paying £18 for some sad looking chips and garlic bread. Wild because the place was empty, think they’d just want to make some money.
We were sat there chilling and eating the food because we were hungry. The landlords ratty dogs behind a fence started barking and didn’t stop because we had a dog sat calmly with us. Our dog walked over to them to investigate (still a puppy). This angry man approached us and told us off because our dog was near his. Saying we were the problem. I told him our dog was chill until his dogs started going wild but he wasn’t having it. Walked off shaking his head. I asked him what he’s shaking his head at and he came back even more angry and shouting again. He walked off and I asked if he was the landlord and informed him his food was bad when he said yes. He shouted “you WHAT” and came back as if he was going to fight us. I told him again and he shrugged and walked off.
It’s sad really, you’ve got a gorgeous pub, garden, the sun is setting on it. You’ve got a huge play area and a bouncy castle up and not a soul there.
I think I know...
