I have been to the Butt and Oyster so many times before and it's always been great but this was the first time we had booked for a large party of 22 people (plus one dog👍) So we booked the large room upstairs for my dad's 70th birthday!

The whole experience was brilliant from getting menu choices emailed over and a quick response back saying all was ok and any time I called always had a helpful person on the phone.

Staff were really helpful especially having to prep the room quickly as one of the last sittings in the room seemed to want to eat there dessert one molecule at a time! But again service was great they got the room sorted and didn't rush us as we had a few older guests who took longer on the stairs.

Once we were up in the room all our drinks orders were really quick and again staff brought them up from the bar. The starters came and were fantastic. My son loved his garlic prawns👍 The main course was also amazing the Seafood Platter I had was fantastic and the roast dinners that others had were also brilliant. The Brie Wellington also went down well with the veggies in the room.

We hadn't pre ordered desserts but they came in a really good time and were lovely.

Then the staff asked if we needed a knife and plates for the cake that we had brought for my dad. Again didn't have to ask they were just on the ball.

So all in all we had a great meal and the setting was brilliant. Staff and management really did a great job for us!! I don't need to say I hope to return as I always do as The Butt and Oyster is just a great place...

Lovely setting, and the building has quite a lot of history. It was a very warm day so we were expecting a full house, we had a table for 7 booked, so no issues with getting a table. A lot of people using outside tables, as a dog friendly inn and a popular area with dog walkers, many of these had dogs, plenty of water out for them. Inside was lively but still some tables available for walk ins. Some nice views of the river through the restaurant windows, tables and chairs ok but benches have long cushions on, these keep sliding forward f constantly having to all stand up to move back else we would have been on floor. A good selection of food on menu and special board, we didn't have to wait long for our food. Some of us had starters and these were hot and tasty. The mains all came together no one had to wait but would say 3 of us commented on luke warm food rather than hot, this tended to be the vegetables. Not cold enough to complain though but not what I have encountered before at any other deben inn, food has always been good temperature. Overall a great place to visit but beware of parking restrictions, especially on a busy day, would give higher marks if food was good...

Visited this beautiful beach front vintage pub with my fellow food blogger friend and her hubby who kindly drove us all the way there. The drive to the pub is via a narrow countryside road with some sharp turns but it is so totally worth it. Everything from the beautiful countryside views and the quaint little English villages that you drive past are part of the experience. The pub itself is gorgeous and has a wonderful vintage feel to it. The bar is huge and they have a fab selection of local ale along with the usual offerings. The catch of the day and tasty seafood dishes made using these are displayed on a huge board by the bar alongside loads of vintage objects that seafarers of yesteryears used daily probably. We were lucky to get a table right by the bar , that is not always the case so please ensure you prebook a table. The food is fab and very good portion sizes so be mindful when ordering. I would love to go back soon and also visit the other pubs that are part...

Cosy and very dog friendly pub on the right bank of the Orwell. The bar room-which has some tables for dining- over looks the river. Other dining rooms in the pub ^do not^ have river views. Be sure to ask! Adnams beer direct from the cask. Lovely pint of Old today. I’m sure it’s out earlier this year! Chicken pie came with a nicely cooked but small portion of kale, some roast root veg and a huge portion of mash potato. Plenty of decent gravy. Sausages and mash came with onion gravy. It was said to be excellent. Sadly the mustard was presented in a stainless mini egg cup type thing. Not very nice, rather Trust House Forte 1978. The Butt and Oyster is a nice choice for a pub meal. You’ll be comfortable if you go in walking gear and if you go in sailing gear. It’s not too smart. It’s one of the Deben Inns chain. The photo shows the foreshore just by the pub on a bright Mid October afternoon.

Went here for my birthday meal with the parents. The dining room is lovely and we had pre booked a window seat so we had great views. I have to say that the main course I had which was Hake and chorizo was disappointing. It says it came with crushed potatoes. There was only 2 potatoes which annoyed me. The plate was swimming in grease and I had to tip it off. I hate greasy oily food. Loads of chorizo but it was so overpowering I left most of it. The Hake was cooked fantastically though. I would definately recommend the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The toffee sauce on the dessert was so scrummy I could of eaten a whole bowl full of that on it's own. Apparently the fish and chips were ok. One of the waitresses had a bit of an attitude and practically threw our dinner on the table. She didn't seem happy to be working.

Had a circular walk around Pin Mill Wood and decided to have a late lunch at 'The Butt and Oyster'. Four of us, plus dog, so we stayed outside. Covid-19 rules in place, so we waited to served outside. We did have a 'bit of a wait' for someone to come outside and take our order. However, the four small 'fish and chip' dinners we ordered quickly arrived and were absolutely fantastic. Gorgeous fish, lovely chips. Best I've had in a very long time. Had a pint of Adnam's Mosaic; nice and hoppy. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. Very impressed with the food, and the staff. We didn't go inside so I can't comment on the pub.
