We stayed at the hotel for inly one night.|We booked via booking .com and room initially shown was a small double.... yes it was cheaper than others on offer.|We upgraded to room 1 , which was their best room and this was much larger, larger bed and plenty of room.|On checking we were greeted by the manager, a young chap but very professional and welcoming.|He sorted our checking and we decided to have something to eat in the bar.|I had a steak cob/baguette type sandwich... with salad and chips ..my partner had light bite and chips....|The steak sandwich was superb...and quality meat... |Not fatty like some you get.|I would say the meal was enjoyable but the chips let it down... felt that they had been cooked once and reheated/ fried...and they wernt that hot...|So sorry lost a star on that one.|The service around the bar , again by a young staff was courteous and efficient...|We had a night out elsewhere and when we returned the pub part of hotel closed.|We retired and had a very comfy sleep. Great pillows.|We enjoyed our room facilities very much.|Next morning we went for breakfast.|This was served from a full choice English breakfast so much in offer as well as alternatives. |We picked our choices and asked for soft fried eggs...|Nothing worse than getting a rubber egg.|Well breakfast arrived and was well presented.|However they had hidden the egg under the bacon and yes it looked like it had been left under the heat to keep warm so ruined what could have been a top score...|Sounds minimal but part of breakfast was then left. Similar my partners.|We didn't have time to re order...||Checkout was efficient and pleasant.. .||So whilst I would have given a 5 rating for the hotel, staff, hotel room, and general service ,I'm deducting 1 for the double fried stale chips previous day and rubber eggs...|Would I stay here again... of course...we still had a pleasant...
Read moreMy parents live locally and I take them there about once a month ... its definitely going down hill! We visited for a late lunch ... about 2pm , it wasn't too busy but we still had more than 45 mins to wait. We were eating outside, as we had the dog with us, and after our 1st two plates were brought out the waitress started clearing tables and wiping them down before going to collect our other meals! The meatballs were brought out without garlic bread so had to go in and wait for someone else to put their order before being able to return to a meal going cold. The meatballs themselves were disappointing for £13+ ...4 big stodgy ones , a bit anaemic looking as not browned, sat on plain pasta with a simple ragu ( home made?) ... when the garlic bread came the bits that were cooked fully were lovely ... raw garlic in the rest. The burger £8+ ...no chips! An extra £3 for a very small bucket of chips, some of which looked like they had been fried several times, a very small pot of burger dressing (salad cream with something stirred in) and a small pot of passable tomato chutney. The 'Litebite' quite tasty lasagne on the other hand had enough chips to feed a family! Did they get them on the wrong plate maybe? The beef in yorkshire pud wasnt too bad .. a bit chewy but quite tasty and the veg was nicely cooked.. if a little cold by the time it was brought out. I did mention our disappointment when asked ... only when we went in to pay. My parents are of an age where food is food and is never wasted unless dangerous to health, of course we finished our meals! No we were not expecting a refund ... we were asked, and we responded but the attitude shown will mean that we won't...
Read moreMy wife and I went to Cubley Hall this afternoon for a few drinks and a bite to eat with my wifes sister. I ordered a double gin for my wife and the young lady asked if i wanted lemonade or tonic and i asked for tonic. However, when my wife tasted it it was soda. She returned to the bar and politely explained that I had been given a soda mixer instead of tonic and asked if they could change it to tonic. The young lady said I had asked for soda which was incorrect. However, she served another gin with tonic, i did notice her talking to other staff whilst serving my wife, she then said to my wife I will have to charge for it!
My wife came back to tell me and as you can appreciate as I'd already paid £11 for the first one that had been served incorrectly so I wasn't going to pay again.
Five minutes later we were approached at our table by a stern faced lady who said that the drink needed to be paid for. I said we shouldn't have to pay again as it was a mistake made by her staff. She then walked off.
It did make my wife feel uncomfortable particularly as staff kept looking across at us. But we decided to stay particularly as we'd planned to eat. I then went to order food and the stern faced lady decided to take issue again in front of her staff and a queue of customers and said 'next time don't make out my staff are liars'! I didnt retaliate or cause a scene.
Why she couldn't just let it go I dont know! Very unprofessional and bad attitude. Mistakes happen and the staff were young and inexperienced which is fine. Maybe she'd had a bad day but there's no need for it. Wont be going...
