Today was our 1st visit to this hidden gem ! We have been out with our family for a pre Christmas meal to catch up and enjoy good food and surroundings. Well we certainly wasn't disappointed on any level. My mother and father in law are regulars here so they treat us and can honestly say it has been the best Sunday lunch in a long long time. A lovely location and tastefully decorated with quirky interior design, though small in size it doesn't feel claustrophobic and tables are well positioned and spaced to allow everyone to be able to enjoy their own company without it feeling intrusive of other guests and diners. The choices available are more than enough for the fussiest of eaters. Everything our party had was beautiful. All food is clearly home made and from quality ingredients and carefully sourced and selected. Starters, mains and desserts are excellent and very genourous portion sizes. Plenty of drinks to choose from and can be ordered at the table. All staff that greeted or served us were polite and well mannered and felt as though they genuinely enjoyed looking after their guests with no issues or drama. Very reasonable prices given the quality of food and drinks served in a great atmosphere and ambience. This was our 1st visit but certainly won't be out last and look forward to visiting again soon. BE WARY OF THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS ON HERE AS EVERYONE WE HAVE SPOKEN TO WHO VISIT HAVE NOTHING BUT GOOD THINGS TO SHARE AND BELIEVE THE STAFF GENUINELY TRY TO ACCOMODATE AND GO THE EXTRA MILE...
Read moreNice decor, friendly staff, we had a screaming child some of it, but not a criticism of the restaraunt, but wish parents would refrain from taking noisy kids in places where people come to relax and spend more for quality, use weatherspoons if you cant control them!, now the food, at £30 you expect a great steak, meat quality was good, but i have had better at this price, medium rare as requested (visit the bridge inn at newmiller for a similary priced steak, it just tastes better, thinner cut), potatoe wedges imo not chips, my preference would be a thinner cut chip so it tates more like chips and not potatoe, however, they were coated very nice. the pate, no issues with that at all, tasty, not sure salad was a good choice with the steak and chips, and the bluecheese sauce not as thick as i would like. the 3 course meal was very substantial, i think they could reduce sizes a tad and charge a little less, £20-25 would make me think about coming back, the veg lanc hotpot delicious, as was the pea and asparagus-but too large for a starter, well done!, best in elsecar area, but not up to the standard for the prices compared with the best. get portion size right on the three course(reduce size on starter), veg not salad with the steak, thicker sauce, and try and get those prices down by at least £5 and it would be a winner i would come back regular. support...

The last time I visited the Elephant and Castle was for my wife's birthday.
It was January, bitterly cold outside and we were looking for somewhere to have a light lunch.
We had visited here before, but a bit of time had passed by, so going here didn't immediately spring to mind when deciding where to go.
How could it not be though?
The welcome we received when we walked through the door was friendly and immediately, we knew we had made the right choice.
It was a week day afternoon so we were the only people there at the time but the lady who greeted us immediately offered us a table by the open fire and threw another lump of wood on for us. She got us out drinks and took our order.
Our food was incredible. I had ordered pheasant pie, this had been cooked to perfection with a teviot style crust to it rather than pastry.
The meat was extremely tender and melted in the mouth.
The dish came with a side order of chips and fresh veg. At first glance I thought 'what?' - '6 chips! Is that all?' and then I realised these were no ordinary chips. They were railway sleepers made from potato.
I have a big appetite and usually eat a lot but once I'd finished my meal here, I didn't need anything for the rest of the day.
I will be going back,...
