I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Old House At Home Pub, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish. Originally, my wife and i had plans to dine at the Oak room at Tylney hall a nearby 4-star hotel we were staying at, but after finding the atmosphere there uninspiring and the menu rather lackluster, we walked out of the oak room and drove 5 minutes to try The Old House At Home instead. It turned out to be an excellent decision.
From the moment we stepped into the pub, we was greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The rustic charm and cozy ambiance of the place instantly made us feel at home. Unlike the sterile dining room at the hotel, The Old House At Home was friendly and relaxed vibe. The decor is a charming blend of traditional and modern elements, with wooden beams, and comfortable seating that invites you to settle in and enjoy your meal. The staff at The Old House At Home were friendly, and genuinely seemed to care about providing a great dining experience. They were helpful to recommend dishes and ensured that everything was to our satisfaction.
The menu at The Old House At Home is a wonderful mix of classic pub fare and contemporary dishes.
Overall, The Old House At Home Country Pub provided an unforgettable dining experience that far surpassed the unexciting offerings of Tylney Hall. The combination of delicious food, welcoming atmosphere, and excellent service makes this pub a true gem. I highly recommend it to anyone, especially those staying at Tylney Hall looking for a memorable meal in a charming setting. I will definitely be...

Bread with oil/balsamic--Bread was just toasted white bread but oil/balsamic was delicious.
Crispy shrimp- Breading was doughy and shrimp were super small inside all the breading. Sauce was delicious.
Pies-- The presentation was pretty good. Mash was creamy and gravy was ok. The bottoms of both of our pies were burned all the way through to the filling inside. We had to cut away the complete bottom and discard. The filling, although tasty, had a slight taste of burned pastry.
Burger- So, I do know that burgers are not aloud to be cooked anyway but we'll. However, adding horseradish and other herbs and spices without telling us when ordering for a 12 year old is just wrong. He took one small bite and said his burger tasted funny. I tasted it and it was Aweful!! There are many spices that could be used that would not be so powerful/overwhelming. This is not a kids option at all!
Service was good and the atmosphere of the pub...
Read moreMy second time here and whilst my first was amazing my second a few days later not so much. Nice ambience! nice decor, good ethics in terms of food and sourcing... but don't diss a dish! my lunch today was steak pie (puff apparently) actually suet pudding! soggy, thick, heavy! when I mentioned it, apparently that's how it is and 'everyone loves it'... I suggested the menu should reflect pudding, but apparently it's not a pudding... it is! In my experience a pie is a pie.. crispy whether puff or shortcrust... but not doughy! I have made many in my life and they have all reflected the description of a pie. So with my views dismissed with some distain and certainly not apologetic and with no reflection in cost... I walked out... in reflection, I should have returned it when it turned up as clearly a pudding.. so my issue apparently... Good luck if you are not entirely happy with something cos they don't give a monkeys and they clearly don't care if you return or not!...
