What a shocker! Stopped on a way to the hospital, wanted a treat and , as so many give good reviews, I expected a lot. The service was dire. Nobody came to check if the food is ok and the pub was not even half full.., the food was bland and poorly prepared, served. My new potatoes were replaced by … chips??!!! For a salad??? The salmon tasted horrid and tasteless. There was not much of the beetroot either… just random veg thrown together. “The sauce” did not have any brie - it was just a splash of cheap mayo! “The crispy” pork was NOT crispy, it was bland and “the sauteed” potatoes were just some old roasties… the gravy was also completely flavourless. The place is dirty, cobwebs handing behind the seats , around pictures and on walls and , even around the radiator standing in the corner . The tables were so sticky my arms stuck to them??? Even if they cover the tables with something that looks like a toilet paper(??!) . When I asked to take the remainder of the salad with me the waitress returned with a shocking old container (???!) obviously I am not going to eat from some stained old overused plastic takeaway container..looks older than my grandmother. I have wanted a treat before the hospital and all I got was an overpriced , bland and not fitting the description on the menu food! I wanted to try the roast many praise but I will avoid this place now for sure. Shame for my wasted...

Friendly and welcoming atmosphere every time, great staff, great service. The menu is varied and impeccably prepared and served. Steak & Ale pie is a steadfast favourite of several of my mates when we visit, and I really enjoy the crab, (when it's on the menu), but really the whole menu is great. Charlie keeps a most excellent cellar, (wine AND beer) & I think his Doom Bar is the nicest I've tasted. But he looks after all his guest beers...

We went there for a special dinner with a couple of friends and we all had a great time. The pub was packed with locals yet the service was very quick.
The selections were reasonable broad. We all tried something different and had a mini share. The food was fantastic with huge portion and reasonably priced. In some places our starters could be smaller mains.
This place is highly recommended for a visit when in that neck...
