Very nice well maintained cafe restaurant with really good choice of snacks to meals with really friendly staff, main reason to visit Thaymar is their Legendary selection of home hand made ice-cream, with lots of tubs in freezer if want to take a few varieties home, the food's and ice-cream is a bit expensive with a single cup of cappuccino costing £3, and 4 scoops of ice-cream running in at £6:50, looking on the menu, very busy so obviously a lot of people happy to visit and pay that much more, (you may know a national chain of pubs have all you can drink cappuccino latte hot chocolate etc for £1:20). this time we had pot of tea for 2 with 3 jam and clotted cream scones with jam pot, a cappuccino and a latte plus 2 cones of single scoop with total costing £35, (good job Bank agreed to our short term loan) on the wall next to where we sat are pictures for sale at prices between £250 & £300, I couldn't see Rembrants name on bottom corner so chose to insure my car instead. Hence why gave 4☆ not 5 it's to expensive £2 a cappuccino is enough. Don't see why paying extra £, Next to the counter is a very good choice of various filled jars from Olives to tins of Biscuits and very nice they look especially for "we've been to Thaymar" presents. Yes small pack of Biscuits is £3:50. There is an on site touring caravan park and a nice garden area with decking seating and chicken's running around, does get very busy summer weekends. Thaymar is halfway between Retford and Ollerton. 2 minutes from the Al near Elkesley..Enjoy,, There is an Alpaca farm couple hundred yards away if you...
Read moreAbsolutely wonderful ice cream, so many flavours to choose from you hope there's not a queue behind you! The young lady that served us was lovely and accommodating. The only reason I gave four stars is for only having three indoor tables to sit and eat your ice cream when you have a toddler with you and its raining and the car is no place to eat it. The ice cream is expensive but well worth it. There is outdoor seating, a pretty good sized gravel car park, but it's not good for wheelchairs, nor is the entrance and counter as both are narrow and unaccommodating. There can be big queues also so be prepared to wait in line. The restaurant serves really lovely food with a good choice menu but again prices are quite costly but the indoor restaurant is nice with staff very accommodating. Would be nice to have a little play area for children to keep them occupied whilst waiting but there's not, so you'll need to keep an eye on them as the car park is adjacent to the shop and green area with moving cars! The little chicken coop does keep kids entertained, really feel for the chickens in there being screamed at, poked, etc! They must be used to it though. Overall a great place to visit and I definately...
Read moreOne of the best ice cream shops in the country - never miss an opportunity to pop in if I'm passing!
UPDATE: The above is still true... Great ice cream. However I have to take stars off for the general attitude of the staff. I haven't mentioned it before because it could have been a one off, but today proved it isn't.
The staff always seem quite unfriendly and rather obsessed with rules for a small shop. Today we were greeted with a "one way system" which was both unclear and unnecessary. Despite observing the sign telling us to stand one side of the screen, we were then told off for looking at the ice cream, apparently too early, when there was only one customer in front of us (and it wasn't busy). Then we were told that we shouldn't have sorbet in a cone because it doesn't "bond" properly. What nonsense - it was fine.
Before, we've got into trouble because we sat at the wrong table....
It's like they'd rather you weren't there!
But I do love their ice cream, so they can't put me off that easily!
ANOTHER UPDATE: Visited again yesterday and a different set of staff were perfectly friendly and helpful, so the problem is limited. So I'm putting...
