Very disappointing, over an hour’s wait for food without prior explanation of expected delay, waitress had no time for us, cheap produce at expensive prices, chips soggy, cheap mayo, basic salad, burger meat mixed with cheap meat, tasted like spam, steak cooked in old oil and left a greasy film in the mouth.

In response to the Jug and Glass comment I add:

We were not advised on our arrival that there was a party happening upstairs which would result in delays. As paying guests it would have been courteous of you to let us know when we came in.

The burger meat tasted strange, perhaps you are choosing cheaper burgers? The steak was cooked in old oil, no herbs or seasoning; such as shame because it could have been very nice. The mayonnaise was a cheap bulk buy condiment, it does not taste nice, the chips appeared to have been cooked once, then left for a while and reheated, so they were nasty. The salad comprised of the basic iceberg, cucumber, and two cherry tomatoes, no dressing. The ribs were not nice - were these the frozen produce then warmed in an oven, certainly not butcher quality! The price charged does not reflect how the quality aught to be.

A busy period does not excuse poor service, nor should it affect the customer's experience. I would suggest visiting the Greendale Oak or the Devonshire Arms to understand what good service is. Even the Pillar in Bolsover, where prices are really cheap present better service.

Gone are the days where the customer is always right, the reason for me writing a review is because we did not have a good experience.

Having gone out to celebrate our Anniversary, the last thing I wanted to, gone 9pm, was to highlight to management the issues experienced; I am under no obligation to put myself in any more discomfort.

Your response and denial into the issues raised demonstrate your lack of understanding and reasons for our bad experience.

Booked for Sunday lunch at 1.00 pm. Arrived 10 minutes early but was seated straight away. Young lady said she would come for our drinks order but didn't. We asked a young guy who asked if we were ready to order, if we could have some drinks, which he obliged and then come back for our food order. There was a table for 4 and a table for 2 seated shortly after us. Their food arrived after about 10 minutes but ours hadn't. We sat and waited patiently by which time other diners realised we'd not received our lunch. We caught a young girl to ask us where our food was and she returned after a few minutes to say our order has got lost. It would be 20 to 25 minutes before we would receive our food. We suggested 5 minutes was long enough. It arrived after 10 more minutes but mine had gravy on which I'd requested be on the side, so we left. Passing the bar we offered to pay for 1 round of drinks but were charged for 2 but we'd not finished our drinks as we felt indignant enough to leave there and then. The restaurant gave the job of telling us and another table, that they were terribly sorry. Apparently there was no manager around to do this job for them which, frankly, isn't fair on young staff. They said they were 3 staff short but took our booking at the last minute. Why not close the tables when realising that they couldn't fulfil their existing bookings. We aren't normally whingers, we love a great dining experience. Sadly we were disappointed. I hope things improve as we'd love to go back and enjoy the previous experiences...

Old traditional style pub with a countryside setting feel to it with ample parking to the rear or across on the opposite side of the road. Outside seating is available near the front doors with views across to a picturesque grass area with a running stream.Hand sanitiser stations are in place by the entrance doors along with the NHS app check-in details, On this occasion (thurs 1 July 2021)a table booking was previously made for our family party of 7.The seating table area was ready & waiting with very pleasant staff on duty, drink orders were quickly taken ,there's a good variety choice on the menu including starters, mains & specials .With only 2 starters ordered, there was a long delay before the mains arrived but with the news 1 main was going to be a few mins late ,this was a lot longer as some in the party had already finished their meals .which wasn't great as it was a salad based meal 😕which was missing ,wasn't a great experience but I do recommend you try a visit as the food is normally...

Mixed feelings. A really nice building in a beautiful enclave with shallow stream outside making this a picturesque stop off point. We had Sunday lunch here, which was plentiful and well cooked and both my partner and I enjoyed it. While my partner really enjoyed the place,I found it a little sticky and felt a few things I saw should have happened more behind the scenes (IE cleaning of cutlery, tableware etc). The staff were super friendly and accommodating but the food was a bit inconsistent. Looking at the other tables, they appeared to have a different selection of veg, plus they all had stuffing with their meals and we didn't. I felt for the price this was a bad oversight.
