I visited this pub with family this afternoon and walked away very disappointed with our experience. We understand the pub had some difficulties with gas problems and they did let us know this whilst we continued to order being told they would let us know when they were up and running again. 30 minutes later nobody had mentioned anything so we had to question whether the problem had been resolved and our order was being cooked. The food then proceeded to take another 45 minutes to come out all lukewarm and extremely overdone. After waiting 1 hour and 15 minutes my only suggestion would be it had been sat waiting for a long time on their pass. The management did ask us if everything was okay and we mentioned the burger ordered was overdone as it was burnt on the edges, the manager did not take this very well, he did offer to cook a new one however after waiting that long that didn’t seem the best option at all, he then asked the chef if he had overcooked it who continued to say no obviously, then the manager came over to us to inform us of this and actually took the burger patty off the plate and proceeded to man handle the burger and tell us it was perfect and as it should be which he then obviously took away as he had touched the whole thing. I would like to say learn some customer service as if you ask someone if everything is okay and they have constructive feedback you should take this onboard and do something about this instead of just disagree. Clearly she had eaten a couple of bites of the burger and left 80% of the rest on her plate yet we were still charged in full and we’re not apologised to at all. We spent almost £100 in here as a family of 5 and we’re disgusted. This is coming from a worker within the hospitality industry and the service today was below par and would be unacceptable in any other...
Read moreDoesn't even deserve one star!!! We were a party of seven 2 children and 5 adults booked in advance for 5.30pm. We arrived on time, gave our order at 5.45pm. At 7.30pm my granddaughter asked Nanny Where's our dinner I'm hungry? My husband enquired why it was taking so long and was told oh, the chef has been doing the meals for the smaller tables but he's doing yours now! After another 15/20 minutes the food started to arrive. My granddaughters burger had bacon welded to the top that was burnt black, my fried egg was burnt black all round the edge only the yolk escaped! The waitress told us the chef had dropped the chips for the last two meals on the floor so had had to share what he'd put on the others but was making us some more, which came out about 10 or more minutes after the meals so most of our food that could be eaten had gone! The smaller tables had 2 or 4 people on them that all came into the pub after us in dribs and drabs so no actual rush, so why our table had to wait for them all to be served first was beyond us!!!!! Part of our party had come over from Australia and it was on my daughters recommendation that we would go to the ship Inn for tea because it was good. We'll, guess what, we won't be going again in a hurry, and my daughter has changed her opinion of the place too!!!
It was...

Located in the heart of Newington, The Ship Inn offers a traditional Sunday lunch experience that is both satisfying and easy on the pocket. For just £11 per person, guests can indulge in a medium-sized carvery that caters to those longing for a hearty, classic meal.
The ambiance of the inn strikes a balance between rustic and cozy, giving diners the feel of a genuine British pub. The warm wood interiors paired with classic pub decor create a welcoming environment, ideal for families and groups of friends looking to catch up over a meal.
The carvery itself, while satisfactory, does not particularly stand out. The meats, veggies, and accompaniments are all competently prepared. However, given the modest price point, one should manage their expectations accordingly. It's a decent meal for the price, but gourmet seekers might find it somewhat ordinary.
Service at The Ship Inn is adequate. The staff is friendly enough, though there can be moments of delay during peak hours, which is expected in most establishments.
In conclusion, The Ship Inn Newington offers a good value Sunday lunch, especially for those on a budget. While it may not be the most remarkable carvery you'll ever have, it's a solid choice for a comforting Sunday roast without...
