Due to reply,REVISED, I did not insult you, once you do you loose point and case. For pub grub it was dear, on fact £82 expensive. on entry the smell of fish was quite off putting but hoped it disappeared, it didn't, but did get less...On commenting to the nice polite bar man, " bloody he'll, its dear," in a joking, humour toned voice,"fine dining isn't cheap", I replied, "we'll see soon, I suppose", and we sat down in a dining area, not the snack area, as directed. In the pub was 1 lady in the snack area and think apart from us two, it was empty. Nice, decor, pleasant atmosphere, apart from the strong fishy odour, ok its an eatery so sort of forgave the odour... We took the drinks sat down to wood tables, with cutlery on laid napkins, NOT THE FINE DINING, the barman promised, bare wood pub tables, and paper napkins!!! not the finest dining I was sort of promised. For me fine dining is a cloth covered table, matching chairs and real laundered cloth napkins at least!!!. We studied the menu intently whilst taking in the fish odour, sipping our drinks and gasping at the prices, but for us if its good it might be worth it, as we were looking for a venue for an occassion in the next few weeks... "sod the expense, let's see what it's like," and we ordered from the , 'dining menu'. I love scallops, so the scallop starter dish was £12, so I I quired, " how many scallops do I get as it stated,"scallop with artichoke puree".. singular, not plural.. the barman, replied, " you get x3", great ill order that... and and gammon steak as a main, my partner ordered, a mushroom garlic something, basically it was like a mushroom pie, and she ordered a steak pie and new potatoes, at that point her starter was worded as if basically garlic mushrooms in sone sort of presentation we had not heatd of so looked forward to seeing what it was, like I said it arrived, basically a mushroom pie, but very nice presented well and she enjoyed it.. But, but we had to wait quite a long time to say one other person in eating, but we took that in our stride.... the starters arrived some 30 mins later and her mushroom "pie" looked well and quite the dish to be honest, I was a tad envy,. Well now I turn to my starter, looked impressive on a white long narrow plate, with x3 scallops and wild flowers as garnish and a "smear" of I believe artichoke puree, well... Well I was a little lost for words for £12 and a smear of artichoke puree the x3 scallops were no bigger than a 10p piece with 3 in total the taste wasnice granted a tiny bit chewy but acceptable to me but for £12 it was a total let down in terms if value for money..I bit my lip, said nothing and ate all the contents of the fish, didn't take long mind! my partners mushroom pie was also enjoyed both I taste, and value for money at think £7..We ate the starters and discussed them both, we both agreed hers was very nice, tasty and ok for the value, however, my partner normally remains tight lipped, but she was surprised as to the lack of content on my plate, we chuckled and the barman, waiter came over and asked if all was OK? yes I replied, ordered more drinks one soft, one larger shandy!! and he asked how was the fine fining experience going?, "I replied," let's see all the food, we have ordered and reserve the opinion..." .More serious time went by and the mains arrived, my partners steak pie looked nice and filles the plate think it was, £12,mine arrived and the gammon looked, nice, thick and sadly lost on the plate a basket of fries arrived, and I ordered extra onion rings... for £17 that gammon looked a sad morsel on the plate, a bit of side dressing, fries in a basket, onion rings separated in another dish, very heavily cooked dark brown and super crispy, sone would call them," cremated" but .. again let's eat.. both meals were ok, nothing to write home about, my partner left a bit, even after I tucked in, but mine was just, OK. overcooked fried egg, a few peas and reasonably tasty but again for the price, sorry just not worth £17.. and as for fine dining, Not really, and by a...

SERVICE. When you pay for food and drink you expect a basic level of service from the hosting staff. On this occasion we were greeted with a smile by a young lady who showed us to our table in the main dining area. Drinks order was taken in good time and we set about perusing the menu. The waitress arrived with our tray of drinks and proceeded to remove each wine glass from the tray by pinching the top rim. This is not an acceptable, or indeed a hygienic method. None of the glasses that were delivered were spotless and while some chose to polish the glasses with their napkins one of the glasses required replacing as it had a heavy lipstick stain. At no point did the waitress attempt or offer to pour our wine.
Starters and mains were ordered. When the starters arrived we had to mention to said waitress that there was no cutlery on the table with which to eat our food. She disappeared and returned with a fist full of knives and forks which she placed heavily, almost but not quite slammed, in a pile on the end of the table not even attempting to issue a set to each diner. As she walked away we each shot glances at each other in disbelief. Our main course arrived and once again cutlery was requested from the waitress. Once again she disappeared and returned with the missing items however this time she plonked them on the table in between two of the diners before walking away. At no point during our meal, starters or main course, were we asked if everything was okay with the food.
It is important to note that throughout the time we were there our server maintained a happy smiling demeanor, nice enough BUT she shouldn't be a waitress. If she is new and is learning the trade then it is incumbent on the management to ensure she is correctly taught, supervised and mentored prior to being let loose on paying customers.
FOOD. I will not go into the pros or cons of the food but suffice to say there were definitely more cons than pros but if required I can and will add detailed feedback later on... Chicken Liver Pate Pork Belly Pommes Dauphinoise Bay Horse Burger Sea Bass
Suffice to say, in the opinion of our party, and this includes someone who spent many years in the hospitality trade, we are not able to recommend The Bay Horse. There are many better establishments to visit at this price point where you will feel you have been well looked after and served with carefully prepared good...

The fact you keep responding calling me a liar and saying I am writing fictional novels? Absolutely appalling . I wondered why it was empty when we got there now I know why. Take some accountability for how disastrous your 'fine dining' establishment is. Once again I left no reviews else where but have now left a review on happycow also to advise people on how gross your customer service is.I never put a review on dishcult that would be a family member of which I was unaware had also left you an honest review ...
I HAVE LEFT 0 OTHER REVIEWS ON ANY OTHER SITE
WE WERE TOLD UPON ARRIVAL NO PIES WERE AVAILABLE PLEASE DO NOT CALL 8 PEOPLE LIARS WHO ALL WITNESSED THIS . NO LEEKS FOR THE PASTA - REPLACED WITH ONION , COULD COUNT THE MUSHROOMS IN THE PASTA ON ONE HAND THERE WAS THAT LITTLE IN IT.

4.CALLING A CUSTOMER A LIAR FOR TELLING AN ACTUAL FACT OF WHAT HAPPENED iS DISGUSTING.
5.CLEARY CANNOT TAKE ANY SORT OF CRITICISM

MY NAME IS NOT MARIE??
We arrived at 5pm and all of the pies on the menu were unavailable, found the menu rather limited as they were out of ingredients for some dishes and some were totally off the menu
£18 for a very small bowl of pasta which arrived cold and had to be sent back . Found it way overpriced for the standard of food. Didn't have all the ingredients for the dish so subbed it with a bit of onion .
The difference between a small banana blossom fish and chips and a large was a handful of chips with a £7 increase - extortionate
Garlic bread tasted like raw garlic that hadn't been cooked properly . And the battered banana blossom was tasteless and greasy . My favourite part of the meal was the chocolate disc we were given with the bill.
To say the food was a disappointment was an understatement after seeing many other good reviews.
Perhaps we caught them on a bad night service and food wise as it wasn't a pleasant experience especially as we were celebrating an anniversary. Most likely...
