We visited the Sparrowhawk for Sunday lunch to celebrate my mothers birthday. Everything was fine initially and all seemed well, the usual expectations were initially met for this type of pub/restaurant.
It took a while for our drinks order to be taken but we expected this as it was rather busy. Once the drinks arrived it took another 15 minutes for our food order to be taken. Again forgivable as it was very busy.
Although the waiting did start to become tiresome as it took 40 minutes for the food to arrive after ordering.
Once the food did arrive it was very disappointing. The beef was incredibly tough, so much so that two of us in the party could not cut the beef with the knives. I know it may sound like an exaggeration but this was honestly some of the toughest beef I have ever been served.
I also found that the vegetables were overcooked and lacked any taste. Essentially the meal was presented nicely but lacked flavour and was overdone. Very disappointing especially after the waiting time.
But the absolute worst part of this was raising these problems to staff. Nobody asked if the meal was ok which is pretty standard these days. So when we managed to relay these problems to a staff member, we were told simply that the chef would be informed. Not even a simple apology was offered which would have sufficed.
I then went to settle the bill at the bar and raised the same issues to the bar staff as I felt that this wasn't right. I received exactly the same response. "We will tell the chef" but this time it was said whilst handing me the card machine.
I know people complain to get money off or free drinks or whatnot but this was not my game. I simply felt that us paying over £20 per person to be served something of that quality could have been apologised for. But sadly this did not seem to be a priority.
Unfortunately the Sparrowhawk appears to be one of those restaurants that has the looks but fails to deliver on its image. Providing overcooked food with poor service at high prices.
Your mileage may vary but I would...
Read moreI was looking for a good place to go for some food with my family and I can across this place and I went in and asked if the where still serving food at 7pm and they said yes and then proceeded to ask me how many people I wanted to seat for so I told them 4 and the guy on the bar went and spoke to his manager and he told me I could have a table in the middle of the pub so I asked if there was any chance I could change that as I have a small child with disabilities and didn't like being in the middle of a crowded place so he went and told his manager my circumstances and they proceeded to take me to a quiet place in the pub and said he would clean the table for me and my family then he didn't wait to long after we sat down and asked if we wanted any drinks and then proceeded to go get us menu, we had a look at the menu and he came back with drinks and we placed our order of food the guy also made my youngest daughter with disabilities feel so welcome in the pub and when she had a few little moments in pub nobody said anything to us and we waited about 20mins for food which was brilliant the staff came and asked if everything was okay for us and kept checking if my youngest daughter was enjoying her food and she was very happy with her pizza and there understanding of her disabilities and my food was perfect I dont write a review if I didn't like the food and service I recommend going to this lovely family friendly pub and will be going with the rest of my family and friends Thanks again to all the staff here for helping me feel welcomed here
Here are the pictures of the food we ordered and will be ordering again in...
Read moreMy girlfriend and myself have been to The Sparrowhawk a number of times now upon good recommendation and plan on coming in the foreseeable future. However the last visit was sadly a slight let down. The food is absolutely lovely and very good quality. We do not mind paying a more premium price as the food is definitely worth it. However we do feel like we was 'rushed' on our last visit. We sat down to our table having being almost glared at because we had not booked. We got our menus after ten minutes of waiting for one and eventually having to flag down a waitress. We ordered our food and then waited nearly an hour for our meal to arrive. I then unfortunately had to take an important short phone call during the meal. In this time my half eaten meal was attempted to be cleared away by waiting staff. Then once I had finished my meal, my plate was whisked away when my cutlery had barely been put down and my mouth still full. I would of challenged the waiting staff if the latter had not been the case. I do not know if the table was booked out after us or not. However I do not think we should of been treated like this. I could understand if the restaurant was full but it was not. I do hope next time we come to The Sparrowhawk it will be a more pleasant experience. The four star rating is in view of our previous excellent visits and sadly...
