I was dismayed to read KC's critical review of the Royal Marine, which is a traditional village pub whose landlord and landlady, Pat and Sue, could not be more welcoming and friendly. They also provide excellent food and beer at a reasonable price. The pub is small and intimate. The review gives a completely false impression. I was at the Royal Marine with my wife and disabled father in law at the same time as the reviewer and her party. It was sometime after they had arrived that I needed to go to the gents, which I could do only by clambering over their various baby equipment, which was blocking the route. I said nothing but the landlady obviously saw the situation and came over to speak to the ladies. She was the epitome of politeness and what she said was completely reasonable. My disabled father in law uses a walking frame and wheelchair. Wherever we take him he insists that his equipment is stored completely unobtrusively. Pat and Sue are excellent with him. We cannot recommend the Royal Marine...
Read moreWent to have lunch after a baby class in the village hall. 3 of us with well behaved babies 6 months old. We were just sorting the babies before going to order our lunch and were asked by a female member or staff to "make space, as we will be having a busy session with the builders coming in soon". "We will be very busy with them and it's a small pub". This made us feel not at all welcome to say the least. Had the staff member asked if we could move our pushchairs then we would have obliged. Needless to say we left. A shame as we will be in the village hall every week and were looking for somewhere close to go for lunch...
Read moreDare say it might be a great pub, but I didn't get to find out. The Google listing showed it was open on Monday lunchtimes so after getting the bus to Lyne I walked along to the pub. It was shut, with a sign showing that it was closed on Monday and Saturday lunchtimes but open at all others. Closing at Monday lunchtimes is fair enough, there can't be that much trade around, but it took me two minutes to edit the opening times shown in the Google listing to correct them: couldn't the owners/staff have done that when they changed their hours? It looked like a good pub from the outside so I'll be along...
