I’ve visited the rose and crown a number of times in the past… the last time was about 3 years ago and was really looking forward to eating here again.

It was always a really lovely place to eat, great good, fantastic ambience and good value for money. However, this time it was a let down.

The food was poor. The lamb was over done, poor quality and chewy, the fish had no seasoning however the duck was ok.

In our opinion, the service was poor…

We had reserved a table and were shown to it. A couple of minutes later, one of the staff came up and said we need to move from there because they have another reservation and can only be there for about 30 mins. A bit of an odd experience and probably just a lack of proper management and organisation.however, they managed to sort something g out as we were left alone there There were no cutlery or paper tissue or condiments left on our the table. It appeared like diners were meant to fend for themselves by going up to the service table where these things are kept. However those service tables too had just tissues and a couple of spoons and knives left. Eventually I had to find one of the service folk and ask them for some cutlery and was duly pointed to another table at another end of the restaurant that happened to have some.

The service of drinks too was not great. It took about 20 mins to even get the drinks out and the starters and main course came out almost together…. The Sspiced Mojito had some wilted mint in it. The lamb main dish was cold… probably because it was lying around inside for a while.

and all of the above is made worse by the fact that you pay for your meal in advance and includes a 10% service change as part of the bill… there was virtually zero service worth paying for in our opinion. All in all, not a good place to eat. Given that we travelled 30 mins to get to this pub with the great memory of what we had 3 years ago, it felt like a let down. It is a real pity because the restaurant itself was a really lovely place and we were hoping to frequent this place a bit more. I do hope it does improve cos I feel they have a great location and fantastic layout of their outdoor section if the restaurant. However, in its current state, I won’t be visiting again until...

Lovely countryside pub, with a busy atmosphere and an outside bar person who went out of his way to find out the allergens for me. There’s a lovely playground for the kids too.

Unfortunately, the pizzas from the outside pizza shack significantly let this place down. It could be sooooooooo incredible, come on! The menu is inviting and seeing a real pizza oven gives you a sense you’re in for a treat, plus the Ā£15 a pop price tag… you’re expecting a delicious Italian-style pizza but ours resembled soggy cheese pies. Such a shame.

A real pizza chef would be a worthwhile investment for this pub and customers would certainly come back time and time again. The biggest disappointment for me was the plant-based pizza which tasted awful; it’s how I imagine eating coconut body lotion might be… 😬 it might be an idea for the kitchen to taste it before serving it. Tomato sauce, vegan mozzarella (which I think is the culprit for the bad flavour) and some jackfruit pepperoni thrown on top, for Ā£15 is not okay. It’s actually outrageous. I’m heading back to Pizza Express or M&S for their vegan pizzas and will just grab a bowl of chips if we return to this pub.

I appreciated the genuine apology from a female member of staff who then informed a more senior member of the team, who listened but didn’t really show genuine empathy or action. It was very busy at the bar so I can understand you might have been under the pump but it would be an idea to quickly offer your customers an alternative if they are brave enough to give you honest, verbal feedback directly. It goes a long way to showing you care that everyone has a good experience. As it stands, I think you’re probably making so much weekend money that you don’t really give much of a hoot....

We had a table booked which wasn’t ready upon arrival, in fact it was almost half an hour late (no one was sat at the table) Whilst we were waiting we decided to get a drink from the bar, it took the bartender over 15 minutes to serve 2 people in front of us…

Once we were seated it took half an hour for someone to come and see if we were ready to order, we placed our order and I was very specific that i wanted the larger steak (not sirloin) and for it to be cooked medium. Our starters arrived around 20-25 minutes after this (so 90 minutes after our booked time), and our mains arrived 45 minutes later (over 2 hours by this point). I hadn’t been given the correct steak and it was also under rare. It took 25 minutes for a check back, by which point my husband had finished eating. They re-cooked a new steak, the correct one, and it arrived 20 minutes later.

From our booking at 7:30, we spent over 3.5 hours here for a 2 course meal. The wait times are frankly horrible, multiple times when ordering a drink, it took over 20 minutes for the drink to come. We even had to ask them to turn the lights on, because we were sat in the dark.

I struggled to even give it 2 stars because of how terrible the experience was, but the food, when it did arrive, was amazing!

Overall probably won’t visit again in the near future, which is a shame because a lot of work has been put into an outdoor refurb since our last visit. However, it doesn’t have the service to match the food quality and...

This review only got three stars luckily the food brought it up higher. Food was pretty good. Fish and chips was tasty, carrot soup was good with a surprise spicy taste. The SERVICE was terrible. We were seated when we came in at the high tops by the bar... It was finally 20 mins later we went to the bar to get drinks... No one came to our table. We even had to go up to the bar to order our food. I understand if we are at tables that are serviced by the bar, then the bartender should come out and wait on us and there were 2 bar tenders as well as the waitress' were making there drinks too.. what is the job of the bartender??.. certainly not serving tables. One and only one server came by our table to collect the starter plates. She asked if she could get us our check.. I said I still have not had my main!!! It was into almost 55 minutes before I got my meal. The place overall was nice, and when we did speak to anyone they were pleasant, but we spent 2 hours here and over 1 hour was just waiting alone!!!

Lovely place to visit after a long day at work, went with some of my colleagues/friends informally and it was great. The sun definitely helped the atmosphere, but there are also undercover booths with heaters built in that you can reserve, which I think we may do for next time! Food and drinks are on the more expensive side, but it is expected for where the pub’s located. You can order straight to your table through a QR code, which we loved! The food was really tasty, and a worker even came out to tell us there would be a bit of a wait which we thought was nice. Car park does get quite busy and we were lucky to find a space at 6pm is, but thankfully some people were leaving so we were able to get in their spaces. Would definitely recommend if you’re in the area!

If I could give this pub/restaurant 6* I would. We originally went to the rose and olive branch down the road and the menu was bland so we moved on to here on the off chance they served food having never been. They were absolutely heaving busy but we still got a table, had incredible service and the food was incredible. The staff and management receive full marks, our waitress, Katie was incredible (she even noticed we needed a drink before we did!) I am amazed. Well done R&C, well done.
