Came in a visited as a party of 30 guests, this table was booked on Friday 1st April, we were asked for a pre order as we were a large party and it was half term. Completely understandable, I myself brought the pre order in on Monday morning when I visited for breakfast, this gave the staff 2 days to read everything through and make sure any issues were brought to our attention before we arrived so everything ran smoothly, well I was so wrong! Food began arriving at 6:15pm, a few adults meals and then followed by a few kids meals, my dad had finished his meal by the time my 4 year old niece managed to get hers, we expected as we had a pre order that all food would be out promptly and we could eat as a family for our birthday celebration, again how very wrong was I. Meals were coming out wrong, stuff that had not even been ordered was sent to out table, we had to check on our copy of the pre order to make sure what was on there. Once food had all arrived we had no check back, the only one received was by a young waitress (did not get her name) she was very attentive and polite and the only one who did ask if everything was okay at the end of our dessert orders. Once purchased desserts, I myself and my cousin ordered 3 ice cream build your own sundaes, 2 arrived and no sign of the 3rd, I asked the waitress after 15/20 mins if there was any sign, she had been sent back with a whippy ice cream bowl as that’s ‘apparently’ what was ordered? We had receipts to prove this, so went up and spoke to the manager Craig who was so abrupt and rude and practically shouted telling us we did not order that you get whippy ice cream with the kids meal, in which we showed him the menu and explained that is what is offered, he then replied with “those menus should not even be out on the table” and snatched it from her then throwing it behind the bar, then asking again “what do you want me to do about that?” We replied that we would like the sundae that had been paid for and was still missing from the table. Waitress brought sundae out in a couple of minutes, again very polite and apologetic, when it in no way was her fault. The same manager sent the young waitress back in to us to say “I have been told you need to start paying your bill” clearly in his mind that we were commoners that would walk out without paying, disgusting discriminatory behaviour from a superior member of staff. We decided that it didn’t seem like we were wanted by that particular manager so a lot of us paid our bill and left, he then proceeded to shout across the bar to my sister who’s birthday we were celebrating that 5 lots of chips and a kids meal needed paging for now, in which she did, however that kids meal was sent back as it was wrong and was swapped for something else, so tried charging us for something we did not have. When approached about this, he proceeded to run away into the back and did no deal with the situation, left his other members of staff who were very helpful and kindly refunded the whole kids meal and all of the chips (which we did not expect as the chips were eaten) thank you to that member of staff, very helpful you should give him a promotion and give the other one a lesson in how to speak to customers and ditch the aggressive attitude! We did not then see Craig the manager for the rest of our evening, I assume this is because he could simply not be bothered to deal with the complaint. Absolutely disgusting and unprofessional behaviour from him, I expect you shall sort this in a professional manner and give him a fine lesson in customer service! Although finally please thank the rest of the staff who were kind and attentive our...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant recently and had mixed feelings about the experience. On the positive side, the food was genuinely good and reasonably priced. We started with the chicken sharer, which included wings, chicken strips, and chicken fries. It was fresh, hot, and very tasty—definitely a highlight. It took around 30–40 minutes to arrive, which was acceptable.
However, the wait for our mains was far too long. We were told it would be about 30 minutes from starters to mains, but we ended up waiting well over an hour. For just two courses for two people, we were there for over two hours in total. While the steaks were cooked well—tender, tasty, and served with good quality sauce and chips—the excessive wait really took away from the experience.
The seating arrangement also left a lot to be desired. We were placed at a large table for two in a busy area, and other customers had to squeeze past us repeatedly. It wasn’t comfortable, and despite other tables becoming available, we weren’t offered the option to move.
Service-wise, the staff seemed to be doing their best, but a couple were clearly overworked and came across as quite grumpy. There was no apology for the long wait for our mains, and when we left and said thank you, we were met with a grunt rather than a proper farewell.
I had considered recommending this place to my parents when they visit Boston, but unfortunately, due to the long wait times and underwhelming service, I won’t be doing so. The food was good, but the overall experience...
Read moreWe’ve been visiting this pub monthly for the past six months when in the local area, and until now, both the food and service have consistently been excellent. Unfortunately, our most recent experience was highly disappointing and fell well short of expectations.
During our visit last night, we were informed of a delay in food service, which we understood—but what wasn’t made clear was that this would extend to nearly two hours. When the food finally arrived, one of the seven dishes was completely cold, while the others were only lukewarm and lacked the usual quality we’ve come to enjoy.
We brought the cold dish to the attention of the front-of-house staff, who responded quickly and took it back. However, after another 20-minute wait, the steak was returned still cold, incorrectly cooked, and with a noticeable film over the sauce—suggesting it had been reheated in a microwave. While the plate itself was hot, the food clearly wasn’t.
We also observed that several other tables were experiencing similar issues and returning food due to it being cold. Disappointingly, there was very limited acknowledgment or engagement from the on-site managers about the situation.
This experience was a stark contrast to the excellent standard we’ve come to associate with this pub. We hope this feedback helps prompt a review of recent service and kitchen...
