We had afternoon lunch with my parents, my husband and dad ordered Friday's fish and chips £7.50 it came with peas and the portion sizes were good, although the chips didn't look or taste like triple cooked chips. The fish was cooked to perfection and was enjoyed by both my husband and dad. My mum and I opted for the ploughmans lunch Cheddar, Brie, Gammon ham with caramelized onion chuckney, seeded bread and apple. Sounded lovely and to be honest was still expecting the little extras like tomatoe and ploughmans ect. No!! you got exactly what it said. Very dissapointing to say the least, it was almost like they couldn't be bothered . 1 small slice of cheddar, 1 melted bit of brie ( the plate was obviously warm) 2 small bits of ham which didn't represent gammon in the slightest, the chuckney was lovely but the end of the loaf crust ....not my cup of tea and not forgetting the apple. Yes a whole apple plonked on your plate, not sliced or cored. I had to ask for a knife to slice the apple to go with my 1 slice of cheddar. The waitress was very embarrassed and said she would take it back to be sliced. When it came back it was sliced but still had the core in tact. No tomatoe or ploughmans pickle or trimmings unless you call a hand full of rocket the garnish. As you can gather I won't be recommending this meal, it's a waste of money at just over £8 each. The waitress was lovely and the pub itself was beautifully decorated. My review is only of mine and my mum's...
Read moreChristmas dinner was booked weeks in advance for 7 people as we decided to have this on boxing day instead of the traditional Christmas day. We arrived 1 hour early to enjoy a festive drink at the bar and the staff were informed of our arrival. We chose the festive menu, 2 of the starters and 2 of the main courses were unavailable, Including Christmas dinner so we were left with a choice of cod or beef cheeks. We then had to choose from the main menu but again steak and beef burger as well as some starters were not available. It was far too late to leave and try to find somewhere else, especially at Christmas, we also had a 4 year old child with us Staff did not charge for the starters as a gesture of good will but we all ended up eating food we didn't particularly want. Certainly a different Christmas eating fish or pies and hunters chicken etc. Thank you very much for spoiling our christmas dinner. UPDATE After leaving this review I was contacted by the halfway house w asked us to return for a meal on them. We returned on the 5th January for Sunday roast and could not fault the food and service. As I previously pointed out we have dined many times before and always had excellent food and service. Thank you very much halfway house for your prompt action to my complaint and your excellent...
Read moreBooked in on the off chance they could squeeze us in, the 2 stars are for the staff who were very helpful and polite. The food however is really letting this place down, I had fish and chips, the chips were supposedly fried three times....now I've eaten in alot of places over the years from fast food vans to Michelin Rated restaurants and those chips if they were fried 3 times, didn't taste like they had been nor did they taste like they had been freshly peeled that day. My fish was okay and I added the scampi and buttered bread additional option with which was stiff and the scampi which tasted like frozen scampi. My wife had pie which the filling tasted nice but the pie casing was very tough. This is a shame as amazing staff are bring let down by food that I just didn't enjoy and really begrudged paying for. For the manager, I didn't complain whilst in your establishment as we were super short on time as my daughter was ready for bed and she's only 15 months and I didn't want to make it any worse for her if It had been a lengthy conversation. I've kept this as short as possible. Thank you.
Thank you for your response I'm glad you take reviews as constructive and not a hit out.
