I've been here on a few occassions but not for the past year or so and I have to say I was pretty dissapointed today.
We were told it would be 10 minutes before we could place our order because they had a table of 6 in which was fair enough. There weren't anyone else eating. We asked a couple of times if our food was nearly ready and was told it was coming soon. We finally got our meal one hour and fifteen minutes later which I think is pretty poor to be honest.
The pub has so many tables available but the chef can only manage 6 covers at a time. I've never experienced that at all before. I could understand if it was busy but there was just one table of 6 in. Very poor service!
We ordered the large steak in ale pie. If that was a large steak in ale pie I dread to think what a small size was like. It certainly wasn't worth the money. We got 10 chips with it and a spoon full of garden peas and I mean a spoon full. The pie was nice but a little too salty for me. That's just down to personal preference though really.
The girl serving us was lovely and very apologetic.
I've been to this pub on a few occassions before when it's been packed out and never had any of these problems. They might have been having an off day. I don't know but one thing is for sure I certainly won't be returning or recommending again.
If I had been told there was a 75 minutes wait I would have gone elsewhere. I don't personally think a table of 6 in a big place like that is classed as busy! Or justifies us having to wait 75 minutes for our food to be served.
On a positive note the...
Read moreJust had the warmest welcome ever from Judith and Graham at The Junction. The last time we visited The Junction was way before lockdowns and wow has the Junction changed since then! It is a breath of fresh air to see the updated decor (in all areas), atmosphere and menu. The beer selection was comprehensive (according to my husband) there was something for all tastes, from Boltmaker (his personal favourite) to Birra Moretti and plenty in between. I enjoyed perusing the red wines before settling on a delicious Shiraz (...and then later a Merlot! ) As we have booked a small party for our daughter's birthday in a couple of weeks, we decided to do a bit of 'research'! And in all honesty the Fish & Spinach pie was the best I have enjoyed for a very long time, bearing in mind the previous one was in Whitby and was delicious! My husband devoured the Junction Kitchen Mighty Burger, slowing towards the end, as the portions are Yorkshire generous!! (...that means massive BTW!) How we managed I do not know but we also indulged the pudding of the day, pineapple upside down pudding and custard (I know!! How fab is that!!) And a Mixed Berries Junction Fruit Mess Sundae! Which was devine! Chefs ; Richard & Chris you are amazing! So looking forward to our next visit which will be very soon, if not Quiz Night Wednesday, Sunday lunch, can't wait to try more of the yummy menu, which as a non meat eater, I am happy to say there is plenty to choose from. 😀 Ooh and good chat...
Read moreSadly I don’t even think it deserves one star in all honesty! Booked a table for 5 adults 3 children (one child which required a high chair) no high chair given. When shown to our table we was told that the waitress couldn’t take our order for at least 15-20 minutes, which was fine at least 30 /35 minutes went past until someone came to take our order, order 1 starter and 2 children’s meals to come out before our main, the children’s sausage & mash was supposed to come with peas ( they brought mushy peas out) which my children wouldn’t eat. The mash was extremely lumpy and had chunks of peppercorn in which is not ideal for children.. 1hour and 30 minutes since been sat down we still hadn’t got our mains by this point my children was getting extremely restless and tired! Waitress just kept saying it won’t belong or it’s getting plated up. I could understand if they were busy but there were only 2 other tables which had already eaten. Eventually we ended up paying for the food we had eaten and round of drinks and left. Not one member of staff was apologetic all they kept saying was we’ve had issues in the kitchen tonight. Which is fine and I understand things happen but nobody came and told us that. Cleary lacking communication skills between members of staff if that’s the case. I mean sausage and mash is pretty easy to cook and they managed to mess that up so didn’t really hold much hope up for the rest of it. Definitely won’t be returning or...
