Never ever coming here again!!!!! Firstly, me and my partner live locally and are massive lovers of steak. We order steak anywhere we go. We had two poor steaks here on 2 occasions. Had to ask for adjustments as the steaks had fat veins and gristle throughout the well done steak ( ordered medium rare). So because we complained for the second time, ( we go every week) the owner sent a message with a lovely short haired waitress that we are "banned from steaks". Of course it's no fault of our own that the steaks are poor quality as we usually love the specials board and are massive meat fans. We let this one go and put it down to a bad day. Today I'm sat with my wife and my new born. Usually my wife is breast feeding there and the lady behind the bar never bats an eyelid and all is well. Today the owner sat for 15 minutes staring at us making my wife feel uncomfortable. My partner was feeding at the time and left still feeding my baby. I brushed my vape across my lips ( I may have vaped previously and hands up you shouldn't vape at a pub or restaurant... I do hold my hands up to that, and he aggressively shouted across the pub DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!! I said what's that mate to which he responded " DONT EVEN VAPE DONT THINK ABOUT IT." Look i get nobody should vape in a pub but as a local regular that spends alot down there mostly twice a week every time food and drink there's a way to speak to your locals. I then of course apologised to which I got a vile response. So I went to the bar to cancel my order to which I was greated with threats of police for canceling my order ( I've researched its an acceptable decision to cancel a food order at a pub or restaurant but they forced me to pay for the food I haven't recieved yet. The owner then came over and I said you didn't need to speak to me like that, to which he told me he doesn't give a ** and plenty of new customers in every day. The lovely bar lass had to ask him to leave it he was being so vile and asked repeatedly to leave it. She asked me to reconsider my statement of never returning but he's a vile man and I will never come back. I understand vaping isn't aloud and I apologise but the way he spoke to me was like he wanted to fight me. The owner can respond however he wishes I have no quarms. But for a local regular to be spoken to like I was about to be battered is unacceptable and for my family to be stared at for such a long time when my wife is vulnerable and breastfeeding my new born is...

We've been to white horse quite a few times over the years. We have been 3/4 occasions as a family group 16/20 of us. As a family group its one place we would choose to go. Food always good, service and staff very good always. Unfortunately when we went on Sunday, it was a bit disappointing. There was a slight mix up with our order, but thats not a reason for 3 stars. Because staff and the manager sorted it straight away and couldn't apologise enough. Things happen, it was sorted, not an issue for me. My wife and mother in law had leek and potato soup. The strangest soup I've ever seen. Whole or large pieces of potato, not diced, not anything, just big lumps. My mother in law had to use a knife to cut them up. Very strange soup. I had a burger, tasted very nice, but quite small, not really stacked in the bun, to be honest look a bit of a mess. Suspect because of mix up with order it had been rushed. I think also my burger was expensively priced. The menu is always good, plenty of choice and a large specials board. Puddings are really nice, old fashioned jam roll poly etc. Car park is good, good access to pub. Loads of nice outdoor seating. Another issue for me, was the constant yapping/ barking of a dog. Unfortunately dogs are allowed in. My personal opinion is dogs shouldn't be allowed in anywhere where they serve food. Other people don't want dogs about. Our visit was disappointing on Sunday, which is a shame. But we will definitely go again, and would recommend the White Horse, for food. You need to book or you may not get in. Which in itself is a good indication of the place. Definitely worth a visit. The manager did take a couple of drinks off the bill for...

We have been going to the white horse for years, last time it was very average,so we thought we would give it another try, visited 22/8/20 and the food was far too salty, mentioned it to the staff and got the impression they thought it was a ploy to get out of paying! chefs comment was, i always cook it like that, (steak) never had a complaint, ! we paid in full, left most of our food and went home, i live local and after speaking to other people, we are not the only ones who have had a bad experience. shame because it is local.....Thanks for the reply, Can i just say that the pub is very nice and you are all doing an excellent job in the current climate, i do not want to go into full details about the meal(starters etc)because i understand how hard it must be to meet everybodys expectations. But i can assure you that we genuinely was not happy,! We eat out 2-3 times a week and never feel the need to complain .Your comments on how we ate most of it and seemed to take it well, saying" fair enough" is the reason for the review, It would of been a waste of time pursuing the complaint because it was pretty obvious it was not getting taken seriously . I over paid the bill(to prove we was not trying it on!) and decided to drink up and leave, which was a shame because our plan was to have a few drinks.wishing you well for the...

I came here with my niece to celebrate her 18th birthday on the 7th of June 2024. I must say from the minute we arrived to the minute we left we were extremely well looked after by Gemma and her wonderful colleague. The service from both of them was first class and so professional. The food here is absolutely, first class and you get plenty of food for what you pay. I can highly recommend The large scampi and if it is on the specials menu the battered squid. Both dishes that I had were absolutely amazing and there was a very good standard with the food as well. we finished off with dessert and I must admit my jam roley-poley and custard and my niece had the apple pie and vanilla custard and you got plenty of dessert and they definitely do not skimp on the portion sizes. I urge everybody to come and give this wonderful pub/restaurant a visit as I am sure you will not be disappointed because we definitely weren’t. The staff here was so helpful to me and once they realised I was blind they were very helpful indeed especially when I was trying to locate the card machine. I cannot rate this place highly enough and I will if I can be definitely coming back to this place for more gorgeous food. Thank you, everybody for making it a wonderful visit.

We had Sunday lunch at midday. A great little pub along a country lane, with expansive views across the valley. The food was great, the Steak & Ale is probably one of the best that I’ve had, not too big but full of flavour. My wife had a small turkey roast dinner and really enjoyed it. With the small you get half of a Yorkshire pudding, but that in itself is still bigger than most you’ll find at a carvery elsewhere. Staff were very attentive and there was also great choice on the specials board. The toilets are located upstairs but were very clean.
