The Halfway House Brentwood — Restaurant in Brentwood

I went here on Saturday for my Dad's 50th. There were 16 adults and 5 children. The table was booked for 7:30 we were not given any menus and had to ask for them in the end. We all ordered our starters and mains at the same time. One end of the table received their starters. By the time the rest received their starters the other end were having their mains. When the rest received their starters the other end were having their desserts. Tow peoples main's were forgotten and had to wait 20 minutes for their food. Once all the mains were finished at around 10pm the rest of us had to ask for dessert menus only to be told that the kitchen closed at 9pm and the chef had gone home. When we asked to speak to the manager she claimed he had gone home and she did not have his number. She said she was the only member of staff there. My brother had brought a £50 cake with him at around 7:15 and asked for it to be brought out after the meal. When we asked for this they said they could not find it. My brothers had to enter the kitchen and find it themselves as the only member of staff was not able to find it. A second member of staff then appeared and shout at my brothers for entering the kitchen. The cake was then brought out but by this time the atmosphere had been ruined and this was not the happy occasion we had arranged. A deposit was paid prior to the night but we refused to pay...

We booked a hall for a wedding in May. We were pushed to pay a deposit without seeing it. When we saw it it was not convienient. We requested for Marqee but we were told that it was already booked. We requested for a refund. We were told that we will be given following week. Following week we were told of 17/7/19 17/7/19 we were told of month end of July and again monthend it had to be paid by an individual yet we paid the company account. I have the thread of the messages from the manager Gavin. It is so sad that public places have to treat customers this way. May my dialema be published so that noone else falls into prey.

I do not recommend this place at all. Customers can not be tossed backward and forward. It is within our rights to choose a convienient place. We were not even given the cancellation policy. No signing was done. However my bank statement shows the transaction. I also have a thread of messages that I communicated...

It's on the A127 London to Southend road, about half way between the two. It was probably a stop for coaches in the days of the Beano. Very big car park. Back to today, the staff we encountered were very friendly. The menu was a bit limited with about half a dozen choices in each category. There are lite bites and a kids menu. Had Ham eggs and chips @ £8.95 . (Weatherspoons is about half that price) The menu can be downloaded from the website. Photos on the website concentrate on the events area with a panoramic view of the exterior. The dining area is light, bright and reminded me of a tearoom. It is quite spacious, tables not jammed together. There are tables outside should the weather oblige. The kitchen did not open till 5:30pm on the day of our visit, a Friday.
