Lovely and cosy interior without feeling overcrowded, a rustic charm to the place.
Menus are basic and simple, and I like it, there's no bog standard gastro pub guff about anything.
The staff are lovely and couldn't be more accommodating, had a lovely chat with our server and felt less of s customer, more of a guest.
The specials board. Always have a look, I had an amazing venison pie with mash and seasonal veg. Typically you'd expect some half-baked (no pun intended) made by the lowest bidder frozen rubbish that was made on a production line, soulless and lacking. I'm so glad to say this was NOT the case here, an amazing tasting pastry case filled with generous chunks of venison and an amazing red wine gravy, a generous helping of tasty mashed potato and fresh, hand prepared veg.
This is obviously helped by Blofield Farm Shops' plentiful access to incredible and locally sourced produce, (if you haven't been there already, get one of their sausage rolls, you won't be sorry!)
How extortionately priced was this pie of the Gods you ask? £25? £30? No. £12.95! Bargain! And a generous enough portion that I couldn't even finish my mash after consuming this amazing pie.
Can't wait to come back and sample more exquisite dishes soon, proud to call this my local as we're only a short drive away. Better than any Wetherspoons or Chef & Brewer any day...
Read morePopped in on Saturday 24th, didn't book but they managed to squeeze us in.
Looked at the printed menu and they had sirloin steak @ £26.95 and at the bottom of the menu it said Saturdays were 2 for 1 steak night. Checked with waitress and she confirmed 2 for 1 and took the menus she had given us away.
A stunning pint of Lacons was brought to table and shortly afterwards 2 steaks arrived. Both cooked to perfection and packed with flavour.
Meat is sourced from Blofield Farm shop,
Amazing service, amazing beer and superb steak.
Went to pay and the price for the steak was now magically £34.00 per steak and not the printed or web menu price of £26.95.
We were told we had to pay the price on the specials board despite ordering from the actual menu the staff gave us.
Same 10oz steak, same chips, same tomato and same peas so unsure why it warranted a £7.05 per steak uplift.
It still gave a saving but it seems they're uplifting the special price over and above printed menu to offset the lower taking on the 2 for 1. This is not transparent and slightly dubious.
So the printed menu is very misleading with regards to prices and advertised deals.
Would we recommend you go?
Definitely as the food, service and beer was top notch. Just watch out for padded pricing and check to make sure deals are as good...
Read moreHad a table booked for 8pm on Saturday night The staff were friendly and the service was quick They had a two for one steak deal We decided to have fillet steak which was £30 It came with peas chips and tomato We decided to order a salad, portion of onion rings and vegetables on the side We were very disappointed in the salad and infact we didn't eat it. It wasn't what we thought their salad would be (usually 80% lettuce few tomatoes and other bits) it came all cut up very small looked a mess We ordered the steaks medium rare, however they were slightly too rare for us and not cooked in the middle The steak itself needed to be seasoned as it was just plain and cooked with no seasoning what so ever Chips, peas onion rings and veg were good, tasty and hot However there was a piece of cling film left in the vegetables so they had obviously been microwaved It's decently priced and nothing i could see in the menu was too expensive, so great for casual pub food Overall pretty average but the staff were lovely and really helpful A young girl took our order and she was very...
