Good but could be better...
This cafe has only been open for 2 weeks so they're still sorting out the teething problems, however, even considering that, there's still scope for improvement.
The quality of the food is superb, good thick slices of dry cured bacon, nice vibrant free range fried eggs, tasty thick slices of good bread. The layout on the inside is nice bright and airy and the workmanship of the interior fit out has been done to a great standard. The staff/owners are nice, friendly, helpful and welcoming. The quality of the espresso is great, rich and tasty without being bitter and astringent. There's a dog hook outside for those walking with their pets (needs at least another hook plus a water bowl ideally) Lots of reading material inside for those who just want to sit with a coffee and let the world go by.
However... The sausages were good quality, but initially they had ran out at 12:10pm on a Saturday, and, they're chipolatas, I know they're quicker to cook, but if you're having a full English, it really needs to be sausages of a proper girth. There was only one pat of butter for the toast (would be better to give a small ramekin with a few pats of foiled butter and a few packs of flora, this would stop the unused items getting soiled by the food on the plate and allow the unopened ones to be re-used). The tuna and cheese melt panini had no mayonnaise in it (although there is mayo in the sauce selection). The sauces were all unbranded generic cheap cash and carry own brand. Considering the quality of all of the other food items, such a shame to fail at the final hurdle with the quality of the condiments. The single coffee (a machiatto) took an age to be made.
Lastly... A few tables to be able to sit and eat out outside wouldn't go amiss in the warmer months, although it would be a teeny touch marred by the noise of the North Walsham Road next to it, but personally, I would still sit outside and eat in the sunshine.
In a few months when this place has had time to settle in I expect most of these issues will be solved and it will be a lovely place to stop for a quick bite and a...
Read moreWe went here on Saturday, we normally go to the White House farm in Sprowston but thought we would give Un Cafe a try. And it’s safe to say we won’t be returning any time soon which is really sad as it looks like it could be a lovely little cafe and it’s in a nice area and the menu looks great. However when were were in there, a lot of things let it down. Firstly we had to wait over 15 minutes for our drinks alone, and just over 30 minutes for our food which was just a Tuna Sandwich, cheesy chips and a cream Scone. However as we were waiting on of the staff’s daughter came in, was offered a sandwich sat down and got it straight away, while our table and another table were still waiting for our food. As we were waiting we could see the staff walking around in the open kitchen eating sandwiches themselves while still wearing their aprons, one of them was still talking to customers which half way through her sandwich in the kitchen, where our food was getting prepared, and the other was eating her sandwich which handling food. I find this very disgusting, especially because it’s an open kitchen so we can see them eating in there too, I was personally glad than I only opted for a cream tea and not a prepared meal. While we were in there the fire alarm went off, and there was no apology for this at all. When we finally got our food, the tuna Sandwich was really dry, and the Scone was not cooked inside and was still doughy, the pot of cream that it came with was frozen, I went up to tell the staff this, and there was no apology, just a simple ‘oh I’ll refund that’ and they just refunded the Scone, not the cream tea option I had chosen. It could be a really nice cafe, I just think there is a lot of work that...

Went in for breakfast and the place was freezing cold. All customers has their coats on. We sat on table 4 and when served asked if the heater opposite could be turned on. She went back to the kitchen to ask, I saw the dark lady in a cardigan cooking say to her tell them to move to table 3. We'll table 3 is a coffee table and not suitable for eating a meal at. Plus this table opens onto the door which makes it colder and the radiator was off anyway. The 2 women cooking were in cardigans and one had a big scarf on..they were cooking what hope did the rest of us have. It's such a shame as this place is normally lovely with great staff.. this lady let it down for you today.. customer service...
