Beers were excellent, definitely a well kept cellar. Timmy Taylors was as good as it gets. The pies are absolutely AMAZING. Huge variety to choose from, all hand made while you wait (you may need a little patience if they are busy but it is worth it ). I had the haggis and black pudding - I cannot recommend this enough - it's stunning. The rest of our party had Steak and Stilton, Lamb and Mint, Cheese, Potato and Onion. They were all superb. Plenty of beautifully cooked fresh veg and a jug of yummy gravy - yes, a jug. A jug of pure Yorkshire Happiness 😊 🙂. Oh yeh - fabulous roast potatoes or really good chips and mushy peas. There are no starters on the menu because you genuinely would be unable to finish your main meal. None of us could manage dessert ! Sunday roasts on Thursday,Friday, Saturday as well as Sunday (if I remember correctly) table near us had beef , they raved about it, especially the giant Yorkshire puds. I think the owners are Farmers and most of the produce is from their farm and/or locally sourced. This is proper farm to fork eating. More than one roaring open fire, very welcoming, very friendly. Honestly, I cannot think of a negative; get along there and treat yourself. Be prepared to wait for your food, that isn't a negative - it is...

Pubs never used to allow children in those days, and I remember sitting under the table in case a policeman came in! A traditional stone building, it has authenticity and character in spades. Dogs are welcome and it's a popular doggie pub from what I could make out.
And the food! OMG! I thought I died and went to heaven, it was so divine. I had the steak and stilton pie and it was simply gorgeous, with proper chips and meat gravy.
My only criticism, if there is one, is that the portion size is much too large. We simply couldn't eat all of it, despite really wanting to, and a lot of it was thrown away. I hate food waste, and this is perhaps something they could look at.
A wonderful place that I intend to go back to again and again. Highly...
Read moreWent for a friend's birthday, Saturday 3rd March. The food was all freshly cooked and was delicious 😋 One friend and l shared the Fillet Steak for two there was crispy onion rings, tomato's, mushroom's, and chips, two sauces, peppercorn and blue cheese, (l don't like blue cheese but) this was yummy not overpowering. Plenty to share. Friends had homemade pies which I had a taste of and were also delicious and plentiful. Another friend had a roast dinner which due to popular demand they serve Wednesday to Sunday Would have loved to have tried some pudding but was just too full. Which means I will definitely have to visit again. The staff are lovely and friendly and Jay the chef came out to check we were all happy 😁 It is a small quirky pub with a lovely atmosphere, l do recommend that you book especially on a Sunday. Would definitely...
