Golden Lion — Restaurant in Canterbury

One of my favourite local pubs, few left near me now to be honest that are worth venturing into, and what i call popper pubs. Landlords Amanda and Colin are very friendly and always make time to have a chat when you pop in. The pub provides good food at decent prices, Shepard neame on tap and bottle. Well behaved dogs are welcome bar side and in the garden on leash. Nice garden to the rear with outsdide dining on the warmer days. Clean and tidy inside and out. the pub has a good community spirit about it and provides many events for the locals and older folk. Colin puts much time and effort into his bat and trap green and it shows, darts teams visit regularly also. One of the nicer pubs where the unruly on a Friday night dont tend to venture, nice to have a drink in a calm and relaxed environment. Sometimes we have a game night up here and they do not mind reserving a big table off for dice games. Each course was delicious. For the main, I had a homemade steak and ale pie. It was wonderful, really enjoyed it from the pastry to the quality of the meat to the tasty gravy filling. The potatoes and vegetables were well cooked and lovely and fresh. My wife had the plaice which looked superb. There was a wide choice of mains to suit most tastes and the menu offered a number of homemade mains and desserts. Me and my hubby , went their today , and have been their before .had the most amazing home cooked food , owners husband and wife are so accommodating and friendly as are the staff and nothing’s to much trouble . We Would recommend the home cooked steak pie and my hubby the  trifle lol , but tbh everything is home cooked and proper traditional food . Think in this time of corona virus these people are doing a fantastic job and deserve the respect to put themselves out their to give us a first class service.
