Don't usually write reviews but for Old King's Head on this occasion it's a must!! After another venue cancelled on us on the morning of our birthday celebrations, OKH stepped up to the mark and went above and beyond for us to make our day even more perfect than we had imagined. Two hours before our guests were due to arrive, OKH arranged for us to have their outside patio, sorted all the garden furniture and organised food and drinks for all our guests. The day was even better than we had planned and all our guests were astounded that OKH had arranged this for us in a few hours, how lovely their outside space is and how helpful and friendly all the staff were - really couldn't do enough for us all day long. Drinks were flowing all day and the food that they arranged for us was so delicious, days on and our guests are still talking about how good the food was (especially the burgers and croquettes!!) - and all at such a reasonable price. OKH we can't thank you enough for saving our day and for making it so special. With hindsight we wish we had booked with you in the first place. Anyone thinking of arranging a small group event - OKH couldn't be more perfect, We live local and come down a lot usually for food/drinks and OKH delivers every time, food is always amazing and staff so helpful (and dog friendly :-D) Thank you OKH!!

Never been to this pub before. Stopped off for a Sunday Roast didn't book but was seated straight away after usual covid procedures. Got a table upstairs. Both of us had the 2 course £22.95 each. One Chicken one beef. Staff very good got drinks very quick and the roasts followed shortly afterwards. Plenty on the plates. Food and plates not hot enough. I don't want to be to critical of the food but here we go. Carrot and Swede mash a bit runny, potatoes not hot possibly been waiting for the next meal. Us. Red and green cabbage not for me as rather see peas carrots and green beans with my roast. My Chicken in the Yorkshire was good and the beef was well cut but a little bit fatty. Ordered extra stuffing at £3.95 when it turned up it was sausage meat that was possibly bought in as a roll. The pub is well decorated and staff are great. £22.95 for a 2 course is average but still a little over priced. Desserts were lovely best part of the 2 course.

All of the ales were off but I know this is what pubs struggle with these days. The waitress was happy to change my ale to another ale. It doesn't matter the ale because the problem isn't the brewery but for context, it was Wherry to Maldon Gold. I don't mark it down because I know that pubs don't sell enough now. All I'd recommend is to go to bottles. You would save yourself the hassle. Back to the experience. The outside is gorgeous. We wanted to sit there the entire night. The chips tasted of margarine or something. I think if you want to go down the route of a food pub then you should stick to Tallow. It tastes so much better and is healthier for you but I can't mark down because of it. I think the pub needs to stick to tradition and cook in tallow. I'd come here again.

The staff are lovely - slow but peak period must be considered. I had the roast beef, which I asked for as pink as they could offer. Turns out that is well done.

To deconstruct the rest of the dish: The potatoes were large sized - which I prefer - however they were not parboiled enough to achieve a good fluff or crisp. The yorkshire was okay, you could tell they were sitting there for a while (we sat at 1:30pm, and started eating our roast at 2:45pm.)

The veg was broccoli, carrots, and braised red cabbage. All fine however, the red wine used for the cabbage didn’t make for the tastiest choice.

We ordered pigs in blanket and cauliflower cheese as extra sides. The PIB were -just- cooked. No crunch/ brown to them whatsoever. But the CC was better, cooked nicely and not too cheesy.

Overall, we were all rather disappointed with the meal. I’ve eaten lunch here before and the chips are amazing, and my ciabatta wasn’t too bad.

I wouldn’t recommend the roast here. But I’d like to reiterate all of the staff are friendly and attentively in a...

Well , where to start , food is good we had the roast...but then went down hill from there on in ....we where informed that they are only doing the set menu of a 2 course or 3 course meal prices of £22.49 or £28.95..not a problem , until later when I checked menu and a roast dinner on its own is only £8.95 so that would mean that they are charging £12 for a dessert when done as a set meal ...not good ..then to top it off we were over charged, they had put desserts on top of our bill ..obviously I got the refund for the £13 which is the cost of 2 desserts...so add £8.95 x 2 +the £12 , the cost separately is onlt about £15 per meal prices for the set menu is extortionate....So no not happy at all and definitely not a recommendation...plus ALL staff even Manager seem to be aged between 20 and 25 years of age so very young and not a clue as to what they are doing ....p.s also don't seem to know what a shandy is and know children's menu so not really suitable for a family...I do not recommend and will not...
