Last month I ordered a takeaway to be delivered, just after 6pm, friends coming for supper, I spent £71.00, was told it would be delivered by 7pm, 8pm no delivery, 9pm it arrived, my guests had gone home in disgust, prior to this I had phoned the restaurant twice to be told we are shirt staffed, will get delivery to you as soon as possible, when delivery did turn up, I refused it, guests had gone home, I am disabled, I spoke to the courier explained I had been waiting so long, told me he was the boss, really, its not my fault they are short staffed!!!!! But being disabled I ave just found out they TOOK THE £71.00 ANYWAY, I ave tried phoning etc, but seems like ppl that put up posts about the MAYFLOWER IN KIDLINGTON ARE BLOCKED, how immature is that, I got in contact with my bank for a refund but classed as a civil matter, but for the good of people out thier I am advising you don't go to this restaurant/ takeaway for delivery, they are inconsiderate, lying, deceiving, money grabbing with absolutely no heart, they are struggling that's why they are know open all day, why are they, they just can't get the customers, not surprising really, well mayflower you can keep £71.00, at least your know exposed!!!!! We have been using The Mayflower for around 7 months and the food has always been a bit hit and miss but it’s usually only 1 dish that’s ropey, however, last nights food was absolutely terrible with only 1 dish being vaguely edible. I have never complained to them about the food before, but the standard of food that was delivered was worse than poor so I made a call. I spoke to a lovely girl who was very apologetic and advised I could have a full refund, but I would need to pop in to collect it. As my baby son was in bed at the time, it wasn’t possible to go last night so have walked there in the 30c heat today. I was met with a very frosty response to say the least and was asked how I could be trusted when I hadn’t returned the food! I wasn’t asked to do this, neither was I offered the option last night of collection of the food. Thinking that they had taken my good custom over the last 7 months in to account, I lobbed the diabolical excuse of a takeaway in the bin. I was refunded £20 after arguing the toss and being called a liar for 15 minutes.
So for the sake of honouring what I had been told and refunding the £26.70 I wasted last night, and saying sorry instead of calling me a liar, they’ve lost our weekly custom for good.
I urge you, do not waste you money...
Read moreBeen eating from here for years, but sadly never again as the last 2 or 3 takeaways we've had have been sub standard, and our family have reported similar experiences of late. Inevitably, tonight's meal was the massive steel girder that broke the camel's back.
I paid a whopping £47 for a quarter crispy duck, pepper beef, Cantonese style chicken, 1 plain rice, 1 plain noodles, mini spring rolls and prawn crackers. 4 years ago, that would have cost £33... cost of living crisis yes, but 42% more expensive? Come on.
As for food itself, regrettably most of the dishes were near inedible, and we simply threw them away after a few mouthfuls. The beef in pepper sauce was grey, chewy and bland. The Cantonese style chicken was tough and barely had any sweet and sour sauce. The noodles were overdone and greasy. The duck was nice though, at least they can still do that, despite the miniscule pot of plum sauce and meagre amount of spring onions.
I'm genuinely very sad to be writing this after so many years of good food. Here's hoping they sort themselves out and get back...
