I visited over a year ago, unable to find my previous review so here goes again... I was a regular customer to the Milk shed and was a special treat for me and my young children. The food was delicious and in a nice cafe, although was a bit pricey due to the quality of the food I thought it was worth paying. I visited after being stuck on the motorway for 2 hours a journey which would normally be 20mins, as I was afraid the kitchen would close, I phoned to say I was on my way and I would be ordering lunch, I arrived 5 mins after the kitchen closed at 3pm. Although I called to say I was would just make it on time, I thought they may show some compassion and for the sake of 5 minutes offer to make a sandwich or something as we hadn’t eaten lunch. I lost it when they refused to make anything, I know they closed the kitchen at 3 and I was 5 mins late but I did phone and as I was a regular customer and in view of the situation I was I thought they would show some demonstrate some compassion, but NO they were rude and unhelpful. I ended up feeding my children the overpriced left over chocolate cake not ideal for lunch.

I thought I would give them another chance and returned a few months later with my youngest child, and was greeted by rude unfriendly staff clearly they had remembered me and rather than trying to put things right treated me like I was a difficult customer (I am not, I am a high professional person dealing with patients in v.complex situations dealing with legal claims etc) so I am polite, well mannered and respectful to others.

On this occasion, I ordered my food to be then brought the wrong dish, I asked for pasta and cheese (no cheese arrived) and the waitress was VERY rude replying “well that is what you ordered”and did not accept that she made a mistake.

I was outraged by her rude behavior, when she was in the wrong, what about “the customer is always right” and what about high level customer service??? I then asked to speak to the manager who responded by saying “you make my staff nervous by your behavior” if I was treated with respect and my issues were dealt with, I would have no reason to be angry or upset. She also then responded, “ you leave a mess” I always clear away and dispose of wipes etc, and aren’t they supposed to be child friendly and allow for some mess from food on the floor etc??? I have three young children who make a mess, if you don’t want a small amount of mess ie crumbs on the floor etc then why not advertise for adults only, or have a waitress service or cleaning services like other establishments who see this role as part of their job. I then responded by saying “you don’t seem to value my custom do you” she then responded “well maybe you shouldn’t come back”

I was shocked, mortified and then became very distressed, I ended up standing up for myself saying I was a professional person and I was only providing some customer feedback, which they did not like and were making out I was a difficult customer which I am NOT.

I had to suddenly leave with my 3 young children visibly shaken and crying I was so upset, I had to compose myself in the toilets.

Please for anyone that reads this the food is delicious but the staff are very RUDE and based on this I will never return. I have a lot of friends locally who used to regularly visit the mild shed who are outrgated by how I was treated and will also never return.

I eat out regularly to other establishments with my family and have never had any problems and a customer should never be treated so badly that they end up leaving with being either angry or upset and I was visibly crying terrible service.

Any establishment should want to please their customers or if there is a problem...

Cheese Tart Becoming Miniscule - Should be recatergorised as 'Salad with a Slither of Tart'. The slices portioned may have remained the same over the years, however, the diameter of the tart has decreased (smaller tart tin), meaning the segment is much smaller. Effectively I'm paying close to £20 for a plate of salald, and I'm still leaving hungry even if I consider myself a healthy eater who follows intermittent fasting.

Well, what can I say. I've been going to TMS for years, since it's early incarnation. Of late, what I've noticed is that the portion of the cheese tarts are getting frustratingly smaller. The tarts themselves, delicious and varied daily. They now list it as a special, though it's been on the menu for a decade. Served with a selection of salads. The chickpea salad was the worst of the lot. Firm and felt like it was straight out of the jar and tossed with dressing, it had no depth. Salads here used to be why we kept going back to The Milk Shed.

It's become more and more unfortunate that we make the trip out here, no easy feat, order the cheese tart which is creeping closer to £20 a plate and leave still feeling hungry. Not cheap, nor fulfilling.

Kids had children's pasta. One of the most uninspiring meals there to date. Upon tasting, my interpretation was pulverised tomatoes, salt and some ready grated cheese thrown over. Bland. Served over overcooked, swollen penne. The kids picked a bit to appease me enough to get their ice cream fix. Don't get me started on their ice cream. Doesn't compare to Amorino or...

Overpriced and unhappy / miserable staff ! Been wanting to come here for a while Lots of great reviews But did not get that experience at all

No warm welcome

Latte was far too milky

Bacon sandwich overpriced at £8 (only 5 rashers of streaky bacon and over toasted bread )

Scrambled eggs - far too much butter used - butter still on plate when finished - literally running off the plate

Toast - not provided jam or curd (not even asked!!)- toast already buttered ( would prefer to do myself ) - had to ask for curd from miserable waitress

Same Waitress as before (white hair / very stern looking / no smile - no real customer service) food and drinks basically dumped on table by her too - table cleared no check back (same miserable lady cleared table while I went to the toilet )didn’t even say “was it ok “ just cleared it and walked off

No goodbye - or thanks from any of the team ….

Over £33 for very basic food and awful non existent service / not worth it / will not...

I've updated my first review now as this has become a spot we've gone back to many times. The coffee has always been good, but they've tweaked it and it's even better now. The food has always been excellent, a (big) step up from your normal coffee shop fair, but the Milk Shed isn't really a coffee shop either so I'd be doing them a disservice to label them so. Yes you do pay a little more than you might for similar items elsewhere, but not much more and the quality is much better. They do the best bacon sandwich by far for miles around and that isn't even scratching the surface of what is a very well put together menu with classics you'd expect and a lot more besides. Quality ingredients, cooked and presented well. This has become a local favourite for a reason, go early because parking is a premium, stay for as long as you can and enjoy the environment and atmosphere. It's a gem!

A superb brunch - really interesting dishes on the regular menu and the specials menu - certainly a bit more than the usual full English! The smashed avo and halloumi on rye was excellent, especially with the addition of some chorizo. The coffee is really very good indeed here, a world away from high street coffee shops and the same quality as the highest end specialty coffee shops. And the milkshakes - simply glorious! The salted caramel milkshake had a bitterness to it that tasted just like real caramel (rather than caramel flavouring) - without a word of hyperbole, it was the best salted caramel milkshake I’ve had. Definitely recommend for a self-indulgent brunch!
