The Shakespeare Pub and Kitchen — Restaurant in Cherwell District

We visited after hearing lots of positive reviews. Previously we had thought it was a typical suburban pub, nothing special. Wow were we wrong! The restaurant is run by Tapas Hermanos and they bring a subtle Spanish twist to the traditional roast dinner. The Chefs are experts with meat, seasoned perfectly. The vegetables, traditional but definitely not boring. My partner has a thing for roast potatoes and said they were among the best they have ever tasted.

Their menu does not offer extensive choice but there should be enough variety to please most and that probably means they do each dish well and consistently.

The price of ~£15 for a traditional roast looks very good value for the quality/quantity compared to much higher priced restaurants.

The staff were bright, friendly and prompt service.

If you don't want to be poisoned, avoid this place. I used to go to this pub to have a drink until today when I ordered a pint of Doom Bar. The girl behind the bar poured it, and the locals were telling her, "That beer is ridiculously cloudy!" She, with the pint already full, told me to try it and tell her if it didn't taste right. Being unfamiliar with the subject, I didn't notice the difference, so I accepted it (and paid for it). Then the locals kept talking about it and how dangerous it was to drink beer in that condition. I got scared and left. They never offered me a replacement or a refund. I'm not an expert, and I don't have to know everything, but they should know what they're selling to people, because they almost poisoned me. Never again! Be careful...

Visited with my wife and parents in law. We were very disappointed with parts of the experience. Despite placing a booking which was confirmed by email, upon arrival we were subjected to a rant by a waitress who informed us that we were "cheeky" to book a table in the afternoon and expect to have food that evening. My mother in law even had to show evidence of the booking email confirmation which didn't help matters. This was followed by another rant that there was "no food" except a few burgers and that was the only option available. It was frankly a mad way to greet customers and showed complete disregard for basic etiquette. The burgers that were served were fine but we will not be returning here again.
