We visit about once per month and previously have enjoyed it. But this week - after being barked at by a miserable woman greeting us - that it was table service only (we were aware of this and reviewing the wall menu from a safe distance), we fell foul of a menu that doesn't declare presence of ALL ingredients (eg mayonnaise) in sandwiches. No allergy - just a dislike of the stuff. Having ordered a 'safe' sandwich that turned out to include mayo, we politely explained the situation- well we did once the kitchen staff alerted all the front of house staff that we were trying to get their attention (backs to the customers whenever possible - never good for front of house workers especially when we have been instructed about table service). The replacement sandwich came quickly but was almost thrown at us by the aforementioned passive aggressive woman seemingly 'in charge' - no acknowledgement let alone an apology. Our mistake for not being psychic I guess. If she leads by example it's not a good one because the cafe was well staffed and the juniors were trying to be more engaging. The food itself remains good quality and freshly prepared, and the surroundings are lovely, but the miserable mistakes dampened our day. Will we rush back? The area has many other places, so...
Read moreThought we'd pop in for a snack and a coffee but wish we hadn't, very disappointed. It was quite busy so we waited outside and eventually someone came and said we could sit in the meember's lounge, which we thought was very good of them. We went in and were amazed to see how dirty it was! Crumbs and food all over the floor, plates, cutlery and mess left from previous customers still on the table. I had to ask the waitress to wipe the table as our food was brought out and the tabel had still not been cleared. I had hoped that with all the new Covid rules they would have been more thorough but I had to ask that all of the table was wiped as the waitress only did the section in front of me, there were four of us! There was no sanitiser with her, just an old wet cloth which meant nothing had been wiped before we were seated. So much for hygiene, with or without Covid! The food was awful, bacon roll with barely any bacon and a burnt bun (£5) and a burger that was drippping with fat, also in a burnt bun. On the plus side my cheesy chips were lovely. If we hadn't waited so long before finally getting served we would have sent it back. We will stick to the outside burger van in future, if the member's lounge was this dirty we wondered how clean the rest of the place was....
Read morePopped in this afternoon on the way through and had a lovely sandwich and watched the planes. My son enjoyed it here too. Free parking. We were warmly welcomed on arrival, the waitress explained we could sit anywhere and that it was table service. They do have a kids menu but not printed. They did sandwiches jam, ham, tuna, cheese, and pombears. My husband and I have a sandwich and baguette, which was delicious but not cheap. £2.90 for a mug of tea... must be the most we have ever paid for a mug. I wanted a pot for these prices! Lol. After we ordered, we were asked to pay. I'm not sure it's done like this? We were told the amount and no breakdown. You're missing out on potential tips. Why not asked would you like to settle the bill now or after? Come on, the manager needs to address this. We wanted more drinks and cake so had to go in and ask someone to serve us and pay again. Not a big drama. Lots of aircraft movement happening along with the mini cars zooming around in the distance too. Perfectly clean toilets and stunning setting. Lots of kids and adults alike enjoying the planes and a great atmosphere. The seating area outside and in is lovely. It's probably the nicest airfield cafe we have been to (we've...
