Long story short, we decided to visit the area from Dorset as we'd never been to Chichester before, after a walk along the canal decided to stop here for Sunday lunch. We hadn't booked but were shown a free table. There we sat for 15 minutes until we stopped one of the girls for a couple of menu's, five minutes later we had to stop someone else to ask for a couple of drinks. Eventually we placed our food order probably 25 minutes after we initially arrived. I appreciate it was Sunday lunch time and it was busy (but didn't appear to be packed upon our arrival) and there were only a couple of staff (although a couple more did arrive). An hour after we arrived our meals came and can only be described as 'average'. I had sat and watched during this hour at other people arriving after us and recieving meals before us. It was truly a disappointing experience after we'd had high expectations following all the positive reviews posted. If we're ever in the area again would we go there again, no. As I said we appreciate it was Sunday lunchtime, which is a busy time for any good pub/restaurant, but at least offer menus and take a drinks order upon seating like just about everywhere else we've been too. Disappointing.

Came for Easter dinner. The food was lovely but the experience wasn’t. Firstly our booking was 20mins late, London Pride had limescale bits floating in it (clearly not been clean each day as it should be), 3 items on the menu our tables wanted were out of stock (waitress didn’t let us know when seating us), ordered starters but didn’t receive them, straight to mains (waitress or kitchen error). Communication didn’t seem good between the staff as multiple times different people asked us the same things. We planned to have desert but after poor experience we just wanted to go. They comped the table drinks when prompted. Too many covers to handle I presume. My parents heard good things about the food and that it’s been recently taken over. We will return on a less busy day once you’ve had more time to settle as like I said, the food was good!

Found this little gem by accident back in august while in holiday . Stopped for a Sunday roast and couldn’t have been happier with our choice . Best three course Sunday dinner I have ever had in a pub . Food all home made roast beef was to die for . Plenty of fresh vegetables , gravy was gorgeous . I honestly can’t find anything bad to say about it . Seems to be family run , all staff were very friendly and we were made to feel very welcome . Since getting home We have even considered travelling the three hours just for a roast dinner . Will defiantly book a table next time we are that way .

After calling several other pubs/restaurants in the area and having no luck on getting a table we thought we'd try the Spotted Cow...we tried the phone number but the number on Google and their website is unrecognised so we thought wed just go along and try.It was gone three on a Sunday afternoon so we were expecting not to get a table as so many other pubs said no.. On arrival we were asked if we had a booking which we didn't so the young lady went off for a minute or so and came back and said follow me and we had a table...the menu choices were very good..my wife ordered the roast beef and I had the beef bourguignon...our drinks arrived and the food very quickly after ..my wife's roast beef looked really nice and she said it was lovely..my beef bourguignon was really tasty the flavour was really rich only criticism I have is it only had 3 small chunks of beef a fair bit of sauce and shallots but 3 bits of beef I thought was a bit mean ..but apart from that it was really tasty ..we finished the main meal and asked for the dessert menu ..I had the ginger sponge and custard which was delicious and my wife had the pudding of the day which was a chocolate bomb pudding...I described what I thought would be a chocolate bomb to my wife who was then really looking forward to it... unfortunately when it arrived it was just a bowl of chocolate mousse with a pot of cream and a biscuit....but nonetheless she really enjoyed it.. Overall the service was excellent very polite and friendly staff who made us feel welcome and the food overall was very good ...we shall certainly return and recommend this...

We visited The Spotted Cow for Sunday lunch as a table of 4. All four of us are complete foodies, who really enjoy and appreciate good homemade dishes. It’s not easy to find places to eat out where at the end of the meal you have completely empty plates and all agree it’s one of the best meals you’ve ever eaten. Firstly we ordered starters Calamari and pork belly bites - which were out of this world! Followed by the four meat Sunday roast, consisting of turkey, pork, lamb and beef, all of which were tender and tasty! All the trimmings were equally delicious and complimented the meats perfectly. A special mention about the crispy roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and stuffing balls! We don’t often order puddings, but we were so impressed with the food that we couldn’t resist! We ended the meal with lemon meringue pie, biscoff cheesecake and chocolate brownie, all served with delicious ice cream.

I thought it might be helpful to also mention that the parking was plentiful and the access into the restaurant was easy, even for disabled visitors. Once seated the setting was lovely, with the open windows and doors, which allowed for a breeze on a hot summer’s day.

Last but not least, thank you to the friendly welcoming staff that waited on us, they were so accommodating and went above and beyond!

We can’t wait to come back and sample some more of your wonderful food and drinks!

Sorry no photos taken, as we were all to engrossed...
