Long awaited Dhaba36 is finally here. My partner and I and 2 young children had a chance to visit for an evening meal on its first day of trading, even though we already had our tea. Here are my thoughts
Food - we ordered butter chicken, vegetable biryani and a butter naan to go with it. Beginning with butter chicken since it is my number 1 favourite. What I got served at Dhaba36 was a delicious, balanced and delightful bowl of butter chicken. The gravy was full of flavour, feels a little sweet as it should and concludes with a minute kick towards the end. Chicken pieces were succulent and appropriately sized. One portion with accompaniments enough for an adult I suppose. Biryani needed some more effort on to retain fullness of rice grains despite being rich in real flavours. Naan bread was soft, light warm and fresh. We were treated to poppadum pickle selection and a plate of sweet and tangy bhel puri. Service - staff were courteous and attentive. Atmosphere - fresh and comfortable decor inside. Interior was welcoming helped by the warm lighting. Not all tables were occupied but the staff were kept busy considering its day one.
In summary a great meal full of flavour as advertised. Fully expect Dhaba36 to build on a promising start and serve delicious food to residents in south west Edinburgh who have been yearning for a five star Indian dining option. I...
Read moreNice restaurant and staff. However food hit and miss. Today had pakora, some of which overfried and crunchy all the way through, others ok. Samosa very thin with small amount of filling(mashed potato?). However biggest disappointment was the vegetable jalfrezie. Meagre amount of substantial vegetables (some cauliflower florets and half a potato) amongst onion, peppers and peas but sauce was incredibly sweet with no apparent spice or chilli at all. More like a ratatouille to be honest. No flavour or heat whatsoever. Naan thin and very nice. Shame. Menu standard UK style....wish they would cook really traditional Indian food, would be so refreshing from the bland meal I had.I will try again and hopefully this was...
Read moreHaving been recommended by a number of people, we had our first Dhaba36 take away last night. We ordered on the website and the food was waiting at the selected pick up time. So refreshing to receive a really warm friendly greeting at pick up, despite the restaurant being busy. We ordered a selection of mainly vegetarian dishes from the menu and all were the same quality - first class. Pakora, Kale chaat, Veg biryani, Butter paneer, Avocado bhel all hugely enjoyable and really fresh tasting. Thanks to all the team and we will be back for another take away or a visit to the...
