Having dined at Miller & Carter in Bristol, who absolutely knocked it out of the park, we decided to try their establishment at Cramond Brig. Firstly, the entrances into the carpark are a bit tight and they are right off the main road out front. We were coming from the Forth Road Bridge end and nearly took our front suspension out as there is a huge pothole in the road there. Although the noise hitting it sounded like something had broken, nothing seemed to have been damaged. We parked up. There are a good number of spaces in the carpark but if you have a large vehicle it might be a bit tight. REMEMBER and register your number plate inside to avoid getting a parking ticket. Also, beware of all the cars parked on the street and because this is a cycle lane lookout for bikes. We went to the reception where we were greeted immediately and taken to our table. We had pre booked our table the night before as this place is always very busy. Our server 'Elsa' came over and took our drinks orders, then our food. We went for the Sensational Sunday 3 course deal £35.95. First out came our wedges of lettuce, then our starters, then our steaks and finally, our puddings. Sorry, but I'm not a great fan of the lettuce wedges. Even though it had a bacon dressing on it, this was left. The starters, sticky chipotle chicken was well cooked and tasted great, our only complaint was the pea shoots garnishing it were a bit limp. Our rump steaks again were cooked perfectly. I felt that the peppercorn sauce could have been a bit more peppery. My wife loved the red wine sauce with her steak. I paid extra for chunky chips (£1.00) but was a bit let down. They could have been chunkier and they did look and taste like McCains frozen chips. The fried onions served with the steaks were a bit overdone, crunchy on the outside and greasy on the inside, these were left. Our puddings were poached pear and sticky toffee pudding. We were a bit let down by these. The pear tasted good but the coconut sorbet was icy and didn't taste of coconut. The sticky toffee pudding had a grainy feel to it, like it was slightly underdone in the microwave. During our meal, we ordered a soda water and diluting orange and a blackcurrant and lemonade from one of the male servers. Unfortunately, he brought back soda water and fresh orange and a blackcurrant and water. I was fine with the blackcurrant mistake, but soda and fresh orange isn't very nice to drink. To all credit, though, this was replaced with the correct drink, no questions asked and an apology, so top marks for that. They do have a smart casual dress code. Special mention to our server Elsa, who was polite, prompt and well presented. A credit to the establishment. The server who got the drinks wrong, maybe needs to pay a little more attention when waiting tables. One more disappointment was a mistake in our bill, which we didn't notice until we checked the bill at home. Our food should have come to £72.90 because of the Sunday deal, as advertised on their website, the drinks came to £14.80 total, including the vat the total bill should have been £87.70 but we were charged £95.95 and we left a 10% tip. All in all it's a nice place to eat, albeit more expensive than some other restaurants which we wouldn't mind paying but for the small niggles above that...

My partner and I both had a Ribeye steak. Hers was fine, and although I did eat my one it's the grizzliest/ sinewy ribeye I can remember having. I had two really grizzly/ sinewy mouthfuls almost right away and from there on in I was very careful and trimmed a decent bit off, even some of the parts that looked quite lean had sinewy bits. It kind of spoiled the meal for me. When I was asked at the end how I found my meal I was honest about it. Normally I would just pretend the meal was OK even though it wasn't great but I kinda thought.... Millar and Carter are supposedly a good steak place. So the waitress very pleasantly said, " yes, sometimes Ribeye can be like that". Well, that might be the case but I know I can go down my local lidl and buy a cheap Ribeye , cook it myself and it would be more palatable than the one I had this evening. I'm probably one of the few people who haven't been to a Millar and carter before but I'll not be back. Maybe it was just a one off but you would think the chef would have a fairly good idea when they go to cook a steak how much grizzle and sinew there is, and maybe trim a bit off at the very least. So having now had a response from Miller and Carter I am pretty surprised, so thought I should add to my review I wanted to make as least fuss as I could during my meal because it was my partners birthday meal but I have no idea why you have written that coffee and desserts were offered as a gesture of goodwill. Yes, coffee and desserts were offered to us just as they were to the table next to us when they had finished their meal but it was never intimated in anyway whatsover as any sort of gesture of good will. So yes, we did ask for the bill and declined coffee and desserts. I'm pretty angry and absolutely astonished that you are misrepresenting events. I will repeat, COFFEE and DESSERTS were NEVER offered as any gesture of good will. There were no offers of any sort of good will and nor was anything asked for or was expected, I simply wish for you to take on board that a steak which I paid a reasonable amount of money for was not that enjoyable but it seems like you are more interested in trying to undermine my post because its a negative review rather than take on board that there might sometimes be issues with the food you are serving . I believe I was polite and respectful and honest in the manner I raised my issue and the same cannot be said for the response to my review. And no further response is required or requested for my edited review.

I hope you have a...

We just ate here for a family celebration and it was appalling. Over the course of the meal we had 4 different servers which meant the service was mixed. Drinks are hard to mess up so that was fine. I will say the Prosecco bucket was unceremoniously dumped on the table and not poured for us. Never had that before. It’s usually on a stand and actually served. Our starters took a while and were average. Speaking for myself, I had the chipotle chicken and it had a dribble of sauce and was hard and dry. I’d have passed this on but no one asked and I couldn’t have told you who my server was. We waited a long time for the mains. Our lettuce wedges came out which usually means the mains are en route but this didn’t happen. 20mins later, when we asked we were told “well you ordered something well done”. This was way longer than it takes to cook something even if it is well done - also you’re a steak restaurant. You MUST know how to manage your cooking cycle so the well done goes on in plenty of time. Eventually they came out. Two of us had steak - a medium well rump and a medium rare sirloin. I was handed what should’ve been my sirloin but cutting into it, it was overcooked. We queried and server 3 of 4 was confident they were right! But then when we pressed he admitted they were probably mixed up. Surely a so called steak expert would know this? Server 4 of 4 clearly saw we weren’t happy and came over. The rump was medium well but so overcooked and chewy. No offer of replacement. My sirloin was full of gristle and inedible. Again no replacement. The chips were lukewarm. We had a second round of drinks that we had to fit around the empty glasses of the first round. Server 4 said she would get the manager to come and speak to us. That didn’t happen. He slapped 20% off on our bill and ignored us on the way out. The whole time we were roasting as it was oppressively hot and we had to sit batting away the hoard of flies. Disgusting. I could hear staff at the dispense section of the bar loudly talking, moaning and swearing which isn’t exactly in keeping with the vibe. I’m absolutely appalled at the experience and it’s ruined our celebration. I will pre-empt a management reply to provide me with your phone number telling me to get in touch to discuss. No. You ignored us once already. 3.30pm booking for 5 under Kirsty. You can use my details to email me and practice your customer service skills. Really doubt...

Surprisingly low quality and bad service for the high rated stake house. We had a dinner here today and it started nice, we liked the interior as well as we had been liking the exterior commuting many times near the place. However, the culinary experience was disappointing. The vegetables with humus ordered for the little one were limp as after a week in fridge, non-eatable but at least we were not charged after we had complained and returned. Waiting time for the mains was over 70 minutes, yes the place was busy, but some of guests who had come after us were served faster. I don’t know the reason but was a bit hangry after the waiting and long day ahead. Ribeye steak - ordered medium as recommended by the menu, was over cooked, closer to medium well definitely, eatable but not more than this, couple of really fat pieces as well. The fillet was medium rare as ordered, but burnt on the outside to the condition of the bitter taste. This is not how it must be down, a fillet is my favourite piece and guys you should do it better. The last one: there was no option to leave no tips at the machine, which I found annoying considering we didn’t like the food and the service, so it felt like being in the USA for a moment, as we had to tip despite our experience. Overall, we could enjoy our Friday evening more spending £143 (including tips) in many other restaurants of Edi.

Our server took around 30 minutes to come and take our order, so that set the experience off on a bad foot right away. The restaurant wasn't even that busy, so no idea why the delay. Ordered the 16oz ribeye, it was tough which would suggest it certainly wasn't "30 day aged" as the menu suggested. To top this off, I didn't even get given a steak knife for my steak (which I didn't notice until after the server disappeared). By the time the server came back, I had gotten 2/3 of the way through my steak by using a butter knife (made harder by the fact the steak was tough and not trimmed well; lots of fat and silver skin left on the edges). Meat itself wasn't of a good quality (very lean despite being a ribeye), but it looked like the chef tried his/her best to make up for this by using tonnes of seasoning (and then topping it off with garlic butter). The french fries were amazing though, and probably the best part about the main. Dessert was good too. But just unfortunately the main part of the experience, the steak, was a let down. The atmosphere is very good also, but not enough to make up for the service and food being mediocre at best. It's not what you would expect at this mid-range price point.
