Extremely overpriced for slow service. Waited a minute or so to get staff’s attention for them realise you are there waiting to be served because the staff are inside and you have to order outside. Arrived at 3:50pm and was told after waiting in the queue and deciding to order bagels that the kitchen was closed so no food available only cakes and drinks. Not that you can sit inside anyway unless you book in advance, despite the place being empty. As a group we placed 3 separate orders. The first two (a coffee and cake coming to almost £10 each!) came within about 10 minutes, however the third order had still not arrived after 35 minutes, and other peoples orders who had placed their order after mine arrived before mine did! I had ordered a can of Diet Coke and an iced oat milk latte - which was £3.50 and I later found out they charge extra for dairy free milk options - 60p to be precise! In this day and age, at least one milk alternative should be available free of charge simply because this is discriminatory towards those who have milk allergies or are vegan/plant based. The coffee arrived and had basically no ice (the ice had melted) and the paper straw was soggy, indicating it had potentially been sitting out for the last 30 minutes after my friends had got their orders. Next, the staff member brought out a can of Coca Cola, and I politely informed him I had asked for Diet Coke, to which he said “oh I’ll just have to check” - almost accusing me of lying. They then informed me there was no Diet Coke available, so I had asked to just leave that and pay for my coffee. Which came to a total of £4.10, for a 30+ minute wait and a lukewarm iced oat latte - more expensive than anywhere else in the area. The quality of the products and the service is not up to scratch to be charging the price that they do, especially since there was no apology for the extremely long wait. I can appreciate slightly slow service on busy days, but this was just unthinkable and completely unreasonable. A family who had been sitting there way before my group arrived had still not received their order until just before mine was given to me. Completely poor service and management. Something needs to change as it just appears staff don’t seem to care. My friends said the cakes were nice but not worth the price or time waited. I like supporting small local businesses but I would recommend not to come here unless you have at least an hour wait for your order to arrive / are on an indispensable income where you don’t mind paying over the norm for a mediocre coffee. Additionally, the bins were overflowing and there was no sign of recycling being done. One customer had to ask a staff member to empty the bins, to which the young staff member promptly attempted to empty some of the rubbish into a second bin bag, but struggled on his own to remove the existing full bin bag from the bucket itself, and had to carry the whole bucket through the outdoor seating area to the larger street bins. I felt sorry for the young boy who was having to do this on his own and that he was very clearly struggling and no one came to help him so he resorted in dragging the whole bin through the customers path who were eating. Not very...
Read moreBijou little cafe with an aura of quality. Spotlessly clean - always a big plus with the Forth Valley Scone Rangers. It seems that at 10.30 am we were lucky to get an inside table without booking, so that speaks volumes for its popularity. The menu suggested that your bank balance needed to be in fine fettle for a visit here, but as usual we were only concerned with coffee and scones. The coffee, I must say, was very good as were the in-house scones. Crisp on the outside and really niçely baked. No plain scones are on offer which was a slight disappointment to me, and no cream to be had which is a major disappointment. When so many other establishments are happy to provide cream it’s hard to see why the Cramond Bistro can’t. An excuse was offered but it sounded pretty flimsy. I don’t really want to carp too much because the staff were pleasant and we enjoyed our visit. If you haven’t been to Cramond, get down there pronto. It’s a delightful spot. There’s a leafy riverside walk (complete with kingfisher on the day), a tidal island to visit and a beach to walk and exercise your dog. Really picturesque. What are you...
Read moreWe ordered 2 drinks and 2 cakes, our drinks turned up but our cakes never arrived. 3 tables were served after us and had their ordered delivered to the table. We finished our drinks and went to pay only to be charged for the cakes, we explained they were never given to us, the waiter checked the table to see if that was the case ( which of course it was, why would anyone say otherwise), the waitress was unapologetic and what's worse had an attitude when we asked for the items to be removed. We were then charged for a luxury hot chocolate rather then a regular ( to make it worse we weren't offered the luxury as an option when we ordered). At 7 months pregnant I really didn't appreciate the lack of apology, rude staff or useless service. There are 2 other cafes along Cramond front and a pub just around the corner that I would highly recommend everytime...
