Always get a warm welcome ( and nice cosy warm pub when the fire is on ) when you visit The Stables at Mortonhall. They are nestled behind the caravan park down just the road past The Klondyke Garden Centre. There's always ample parking outside. The Stables serves great pub grub. Always well cooked, piping hot and tasty. On our last visit, we ( 2 of us ) chose patè on toast & haggis bonbons for starters and 2 fish and chips for our main. All washed down with a refreshing cider. Staff are always very friendly and helpful with the food being served quickly and with a smile. The Stables is an old building with a brick fire place and visible wooden beams running along the ceiling above. Really gives you an authentic country pub feel. Inside there is plenty of seating and outside in the courtyard ( if the weather allows ) you can enjoy your meal in the sun. 👍

(Tourist Review) Had a lovely stop here on a road trip out of Edinburgh, saw some very cute 🥺 fuzzy cows in the pasture on the way in, my wife was jazzed about them! The staff were warm and welcoming the moment we stepped in, and the main room was cozy and decorated with stable implements and beautiful chalk drawings of the menus. I had a steak and ale pie, it was pretty good, but my wife had the Mac & cheese and boy was I jealous! It tasted absolutely incredible. I’d get it myself if we were able to go a second time. Good selection of beers, and a pleasant number of non alcoholic drinks as well! I got a Rekorderling cider and it was glorious. I didn’t see a ton of outdoor seating, but that may have been due to the weather. Parking was plentiful and there are plenty of trails tucked away nearby the parking lot to work off your meal after :) recommend!

We went for breakfast as a trio to the Stables bar last week. The rolls were reasonably good, a seasoned bap with your choice of filling. The menu states "two items in a bap and add items at 95p each, sausage, egg, bacon, black pudding" The rolls are priced at £4.95 each so we ordered 1 bacon and black pudding (2 items) and 2 egg (also 2 items) The bill including drinks, totalled £25.70. This did strike me as being a bit expensive and I should have checked the receipt at the time. However, when I got home, I had a look at the receipt and we had been charged 3 x 95p for an extra filling on each roll. I emailed the Stables bar but received no response. This was disappointing. The bar itself is nice, the staff were lovely and the service was quick. An added bonus is the bar is dog friendly, so we were able to take our dog.

My wife booked a table with you for Friday 28 June at 1830hrs for a group of 6. The food was very good - hang on to your chef, but the service was the worst I have encountered for some time in a restaurant. The staff were clearly poorly or not at all trained. We ordered drinks and the waiter arrived with a bottle of wine and one glass for the 3 people who were drinking wine. He returned with 2 flutes, one of which was dirty. We had to ask to place our food order. When the food came there was no cutlery or napkins on the table. One of our party went to the bar to collect those after a second request failed to produce any. We ordered another 3 beers and again one of our party had to go to the bar to collect the beer that had been poured. We moved outside to the courtyard for coffee and mentioned to a member of staff that we were moving and wished to order coffee. No one came to take our order. We went inside to order. 4 of 6 coffees duly arrived and the staff member then proceeded to speak to his friends at an adjacent table, ignoring the fact we were still waiting for 2 coffees. The chef eventually brought out the 2 coffees. We asked for the bill and again had to go inside to get it ourselves. The restaurant only had one seating for meals that night as no one else came into the restaurant. There were 3 or 4 staff front of house which was ample for the number of patrons that night. The staff were poorly trained and had no initiative and when the manager(or person in charge) was offered some constructive criticism at the end he was very defensive and claimed it was very busy which it was not. We are all local and have eaten there in the past but could not recommend to anyone with that...

Shocking service from 2 bar/waiting staff at 2.10pm today, 12 May. I arrived with my friend for lunch booking at 2pm and was checked in on computer by a lovely server (later found out her name is Helen) who gave us menus & asked we order at bar, please, as seated outside. I duly went to the bar to order 10 mins later and as soon as I said, "table 8 outside, can I order some food, pls?" was told by female behind bar (dark hair, black/white dress), "No, no, kitchen is closed". I said I'd just been given menus and told to order at bar, to which male (tall, dark wavy hair) chipped in, "no food orders for walk ins, kitchen closed". I replied I had a booking, it had been checked already. To which the male again said, "no food for walk ins". I again stated I had a booking, it has been checked in on computer "I'll just check that again" said the male. Could not believe my ears at the rudeness of these 2! A queue forming now, I was mortified! I was finally "allowed" by these 2 to place an order, with no word of apology from either of them, and then told by them to collect my own cutlery on my way back to table - whilst doing so, I saw Helen passing and told her of my experience. Like me, she was aghast, apologising profusely. A few mins later, another server (Jacqueline?) came to our table and also apologised, offering my friend & I a free drink for the inconvenience. This gesture was appreciated but having dined here many times before, I won't be back - not paying hard earned cash for the male & female staff member to treat me with disdain &...

Really disappointed by the treatment I received from one particular member of staff. The restaurant was busy. We had three children and two dogs with us. We were originally told there were no tables so asked to sit outside but were told we couldn’t. Then we were given a table indoors a few minutes later. It was very loud and several other dogs were there - a lot were barking - some aggressively and persistently - and some were launching at other dogs. One of our dogs is a puppy - 8 months old. When we first sat down he got distressed when I went to the toilet but my friend took him outside so not to disturb other customers. He was then barking occasionally, as I think he was overwhelmed by the noise but we were in the back corner of the restaurant and were helping him settle. Then the aforementioned member of staff came over (with other dogs barking in the background) and said “you need to keep your dog quiet”. I was outraged that were were being singled out and addressed so rudely. For somewhere that claims to be dog friendly I would expect much more sympathetic and understanding communication from the staff, especially given that those of us camping cannot just leave our dogs elsewhere. In regards to the food - there was a significant delay to service and the food was overcooked and poor quality and totally overpriced. I expect this was related to how busy it was, but in that case they should have just stuck to their original decision that they did not have...
