My husband had just finished a 10 hour shift of hard graft and myself 5 hours. Really wanted fish and chips. He found this fish bar on the way home.
I was completely shocked to see my fish in a thin lank batter that looked like the one I bought from Iceland. My husband's was crispy, so obviously mine had been sitting for a very long time as the fish was dry too.
Chips were okay.
Curry sauce was very vinegary, and had lumps in it.
In complete honesty, I only ate mine because I was really hungry and nothing I could do about it as 10 miles away.
£25 for 3 chips, sausage, 2 cod and curry sauce. Would usually say it's a bargain, but if you specifically go to a fish and chip shop, then you should get the best fish and chips. Hence why I didn't buy it from Iceland. I know and appreciate costings have gone up, that's not my issue here, it's the lack of decent freshly cooked fish. Will never use again. Pretty gutted...
Read moreGot fish n chips for the family, first off, absolutely shocked at the prices. £3.50 for a 'large chips' (doesn't look very large in the photo does it) and I got myself some cod bites and a battered sausage. 'Cod bites' were absolutely disgusting tiny salty pieces of tough fish. They went straight in the bin. The sausage was ok, but it is honestly disgusting what they charge for fish n chips. Only reason they can is the owner and his brother (bills plaice) have got a monopoly on fish n chips in tiptree. If you're reading this, do yourself a favour and drive to maldon/heybridge to get some. Far better...
Read moreI ordered a small cod and a portion of chips, I asked if they could be wrapped separately which they said they would do. When I picked them up I checked with the girl who said sorry there not separate, I explained that I was a vegetarian and wouldn't eat the chips, the young girl then unwrapped them and took the fish out and rewrapped the same chips and the cod separately and handed them to me. I have now paid for chips which went straight in the bin....
