Slim Chickens — Restaurant in Colchester

Not sure why there are so many bad reviews, perhaps that was the opening day and they weren't up to speed yet (has only recently opened) but for me and my partner this was great!

Food took around ten minutes to come to our table but it was super fresh, the chicken tenders were crispy yet moist and cooked to perfection, wings too. Depending on how much you order you get a number of dipping sauces to choose from and these are varied and interesting. I also had a shake as part of my meal which is cheaper than buying it outright and it was absolutely amazing.

Price wise you're looking at a five guys type of cost, circa £15'ish, and when you consider a meal at somewhere like KFC is now a tenner I'd say this is a no brainer for a little extra cash. Will definitely be going again soon.

As a side note, the parking at this complex is a little confusing, there are signs everywhere warning of consequence if you don't pay and even signs pointing you to their location at which they aren't to be found, but after speaking to staff it turns out they haven't been installed yet so you essentially park for free. Honestly don’t see the hype behind this place, Typical American establishment that provides diabetes with fat filled food dripping out the food rather than actual seasoning I’m going to be very honest,

5 chicken tenders had barely any flavour other than fat and the sauces feel like a way to mask the flavour of nothing.

In addition the fries have no seasoning at all, I’m not sure if they’re just unfreezing food and not cooking stuff fresh. The garlic bread they give is full of fat actually made us both feel sick.

The soft drinks are just watered down, don’t taste great, me and my girlfriend tried this for a second time and it’s gotten a lot worse since our previous visit.

Only thing that was good is the customer service.

The place feels a bit worn down due to the kitchen rolls on each table rather than a simple box of napkins, found this a bit of a turn down to the atmosphere.

Wish there was a refund option...

I was really excited to try this after seeing it had recently opened. Firstly the restaurant looked clean and spacious which was great. We wanted to order at the self service screens because we wanted time to have a good look through the menu, but one of the screens was out of order so there was a bit of a wait. The wait was about 5-10 minutes, so not super quick like some fast food places but not the worst. The bbq chicken burger was nice, the sauce was nice but the cheese imo did not go with the chicken burgers flavour. The chips were just OK and the tenders were soggy and had no crunch or real flavour. You kind of lean on the sauces to amp up the flavour but after trying 5 they were all just 'OK'. I'd say the best part was the texas toast and the burger. We liked it but wouldn't go back over...
