Arrived about 9.50pm at hotel; 4 staff chatting for a few minutes before one came over; was taken to room and left to unlock it ourselves. Room was very warm but thought if the small Velux window was opened and the fan put on it would cool down. After an hour or so there was no change, but as we were tired after over a 6-hour drive and it was late, thus hardly any staff about, we tried to sleep. The temperature, however, seemed to go up if anything and was about 28-29 degrees, hot and stuffy, which made sleeping very difficult; on top of this, I seemed to react to dust in the air which possibly came about after turning the fan on. Essentially, the window just wasn’t big enough for the size of room. All-in-all, neither of us slept particularly well and were awake most of the night, which then left us tired for the following day and our trip to Bath and return drive home to Suffolk. I mentioned all of this to one of the staff members after breakfast - she took details and told me someone would email/call that day - No one called and so I called them the following day; shortly afterwards Paul, the manager, called back and I explained everything to him; he intimated we should have complained on the night but I explained how tired etc we were; he explained that he couldn't do anything by way of any sort of refund as we'd booked through a third party; he would, however, going to chat with the GM so that when any request from Expedia went through to the hotel, he would already be appraised and ready. Sent complaint via Expedia and the request was ignored. I then emailed the hotel directly on two occasions via their own website and, over 4 weeks later, have just been ignored. What arrogance not even to respond. In this day and age, it would have taken no time for the 'busy' GM to pick up the phone and call. This would possibly have been a regular stopover (with a child attending Bath Uni) - not anymore. Would not recommend and would give it a wide birth. If you do visit, be sure to check your room and make sure you're happy! Breakfast was very...
Read moreThe Cat & Custard Pot is set in beautiful Shipton Moyne. It's a good pub with reliable good food. However, we went on a Sunday afternoon and it was packed. Although lovely to see a busy pub, service lacked. The servers were great mind you but they could not cope with the level of custom. We arrived (3 people) for 2pm, we had a table booked for 2.30pm ... we were told we would be called when our table was available and we settled in for a pre Sunday lunch drink. However, we were only sat at our table at 2.45pm and only after enquiring twice (once at 2.25pm and again 20 minutes later and then we were finally sat at our table). We placed our order immediately as we knew what we wanted and then we waited over an hour to be fed (3 beef Sunday lunches, no special requests)! The server did apologise for the waiting times but to wait so long for food is unacceptable, especially as we saw people seated after us getting food earlier than us. On the plus side, the food was good, though if I'm honest the beef was a little tough and fatty. We did order dessert, and those arrived quickly thankfully and again were very good but by that time the pub had quietened down. Overall, food was good but waiting times were not. Note to self: do not go to the C&C on a Sunday afternoon if you are really hungry!
Previous Visit... Loved the cozy and warm Swiss Chalet at the back of the pub ... however, only pizza and the raclette served in there. Wish the main pub menu could be eaten in there as well or even just the desserts menu. Will be back though as I want to see the view in...
Read moreMe and my partner stayed at this establishment for two nights in June, with the bill totalling nearly £500. The positives, great pizzeria and charming location. Unfortunately that is where the satisfaction ends. Living in London, I am used to paying premium prices, however I think it is rather absurd to pay that amount for a bedroom with no hot water and a hard mattress. Taking the mattress aside, we had no hot water facilities for the entire duration of the stay, and had to shower in freezing water. We told the staff on the first day and they said someone would come round to look into it - no one did. On leaving the hotel we asked to speak to management, however, no one was around and as we were in a rush to get home I said I would contact them on our return. I emailed the hotel and alerted them to the above and to be quite frank was met with hostility. The basically insinuated that there was no issues with the hot water and implied that I had fabricated the problem.
I was in total shock at the way this has been handled and how I have been treated. They offered absolutely no resolve, no apology, and made me feel incredibly insulted.
I wanted to make my comments known as I would hate anyone to suffer the same fate and spend money on such a poorly run establishment, that clearly does not care about...
