The Masons Arms is a wonderful place to stay, round 10 minutes outside Circenester. The pub is situated on the Village Green in the heart of Meyseyhampton and offers modern and cosy accommodation for £95 per night including breakfast (and free parking). It was even the winner of the country’s new pub of the year award by Good Pub Guide 2019!
I loved the story behind the Masons Arms – the owners took over the village pub where they had grown up! They wanted to seize the opportunity to make the Masons Arms a bustling, thriving centre for the community, and they have certainly succeeded. From the moment we arrived, the staff were very friendly and made us feel at home. This was the case with all customers, not just the ones staying in the accommodation.
Our room was situated on the first floor with a comfortable double bed with an ensuite shower room and complimentary toilets. The room had a country feel with exposed wooden beans and stone walls. There is separate access for guests so you don’t always have to walk through the pub. There is also complimentary still and sparkling water and milk in the fridges outside the room which is a nice added extra!
Breakfast is served between 7-10am Monday to Friday and 8-10am on the weekends. On the side of the bar is a continental buffet breakfast to tuck into including a selection of cereals, museli, yogurts and fresh and dried fruits.Accompanying this you can have white, granary or sourdough toast, croissant or homemade porridge. From the cooked section you have a choice of a Full English, Bacon or Sausage Ciabatta, Eggs Benedict, Royale or Florentine. Over our two night stay we tucked into eggs on sourdough with avocado, spinach and tomato salsa, porridge and a full english. All of these breakfast items are also available to the public priced between £4.50 and £10.
The dining room area of the pub felt warm and homey and offered a British style menu. I loved that many of the main meals had an option for a smaller or larger portion which means you can mix and match! We had the small portion of beer battered haddock, chips, peas (£7) which wasn’t actually that small! The fish was fresh, crispy and tasty. We also tried the Prawn and Crab Linguine (£16) which was a very generous portion. Accompanying these mains we had some garlic bread (£2) which was thick and fresh.
If you are looking for somewhere to stay in the Cotswolds, I can’t recommend the Masons Arms enough. It is such a lovely country pub with excellent food, drinks...
Read moreJust wow!!! From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, my daughter and I were in total heave. The venue itself was beautiful, spotlessly clean and immaculately presented. All the staff were lovely, super friendly and helpful. Our bedroom was a double with ensuite shower room, overlooking a walled paddock, with blossom trees in full bloom and two stunning horses. The room itself was beautifully decorated with everything we needed for our nights stay. I’d asked for a bottle of fizz and a balloon to be in the room for our arrival as it was my daughter’s birthday. This was taken care of perfectly, in fact, there were two balloons!!! The bed and pillows, oh wow…..best nights sleep I’ve had in a long time! We dined in the bar area in the evening because we’d taken our dog, and quite rightly, dogs aren’t permitted in the restaurant area. The food was absolutely delicious, and such generous portions! There are dog treats on the bar and water a bowl for our furry friends, so they can enjoy the dining experience too. This hotel is so geared up for dogs, they supply poo bags, bows, towels and cleaning spray should the weather call for such a thing. We had an excellent breakfast in the morning before checking out at 11am, again, absolutely delicious and very generous portions. I honestly can’t rate this place highly enough, in fact, it’s a 10 out of 5!!!! If looking to book in this beautiful part of the world, look no further,...
Read moreAbsolutely dreadful. We ate here a few weeks ago and had fantastic food... tonight we were told the pasta dish has changed, we were then told there was one portion left so I ordered it and my husband ordered the substituted pasta dish. After a long wait two of the original (sold out ) pasta dishes arrived. This was roasted vegetables Provençal...in reality it was a lot of pasta and a few pieces of non roasted green pepper. We sent it back. My husband then ordered the pasta dish he’d been expecting and I went for asparagus and poached egg. After several minutes we were told that there was no more pasta!!!!! He ordered a salad. My asparagus came with one egg and new potatoes whereas one of our party (who had by this time finished her meal) had had two eggs and no potatoes. The egg was ‘snotty’. The wine was plonked on the table and not poured for us... the nightmare went on and on but the last straw was the sticky toffee pudding which was cold and hard, it was horrible. We asked to talk to the owner who was in the kitchen (!!!) but he was too busy apparently. We queried the bill and were told that because we’d eaten the food they couldn’t alter the bill! We hadn’t eaten the pudding but by that time we just wanted to leave. We most definitely won’t return which is sad because we thought we’d found a gem. Two good meal and one which was horrendous. We...
