Location and Decor:
Right in the heart of the Cotswolds in a tiny village called Paxford, easy to find as it's not far from the Fosse Way. Parking wasn't great, you have to park on the road....we just about managed to find a space not too far away. The decor was lovely, just what you'd expect from a country pub....but with that little extra special touch, felt very homely, we could've stayed there all day.
Food:
Before the food came we were kindly given complimentary fried mushroom and risotto balls, these were extremely rich, but very tasty....a great amuse bouche.
Starters; 3 of us had the cauliflower and onion bhaji soup, it sounds like those ingredients wouldn't go together....how wrong was I! Creamy, and flavoursome, it was one of the nicest soups I've ever had, the bhaji in the middle tasted fresh and authentic. The other person had the Salmon Soufflé, they throughly enjoyed it, the salmon tasted fresh and the soufflé was lovely and soft.
Main; We all had the beef roast dinner, this was fantastic, cooked in my opinion perfect. The beef was very rare, soft and extremely tasty, the crunchy roast potatoes with a delightfully fluffy inside were excellent, the crunchy vegetables accompanied with some smooth tasty gravy were great....this was a fantastic roast dinner that I, and my party, could not fault.
To accompany our meal we had the Malbec and some beers, all great.
Service:
On entry, we were greeted by a very friendly and polite member of staff.....who also kindly took our drinks order while we were waiting for our table.
Our waitress unfortunately was just, ok, maybe we were expecting too much from her after everything else had been fantastic. She just wasn't that attentive, she was polite enough but just didn't seem interested, we had to ask her for water 3 times before we received it. The worst thing was that she miscalculated the bill by an additional £90, she corrected the issue when we pointed out the error, but wasn't that apologetic.
Overall:
You have to visit this lovely little pub in the Cotswolds, fantastic food and one of the tastiest Sunday roasts you will probably ever have! We will definitely be visiting again for a Sunday lunch and a midweek treat (be interesting to find out what they have on in the week too).
I would've easily given it 5 stars, but due to our table service I'm unable too. Hopefully on my next review it will easily receive top marks.

Read moreJust amazing, so accommodating and beautiful food. Turned up with an extra on our group, they immediately sorted us out with an amazing table out the front in the sun no bother. Not only that, our vegan friend.. no problem We will knock up a beautiful walnut and beetroot starter off menu- absolutely amazing- they Just said no we will sort you something no problem 🤩 Complementary arancini ball which was delicious followed by a delicious beef roast, even though I had a perfectly cooked medium rare beef roast with roast potatoes that didn’t seem like they were just reheated (like home made yum) they were perfect not to mention all other staple Sunday roast ingredients; Great yorky Puds an extra gravy! I was still looking with envy at the roast t bone pork roast my friends had- even the nut roast from a meat lover perspective looked good- everyone enjoyed their lunch- everyone thanked the head chef with a very happy smile
Just to also say wine list was on point, particular attention to a lovely rose paradise or along those lines.
Was told of bad reviews of here.. don’t believe them- the place smashed Sunday lunch for us.

Read moreIf I could give it less I would upon service alone. My meal was completely missed off the order and the staff didn't even realise. When I enquired if my food was coming, by the time they said it hadn't gone throughto the kitchen everyone else had finished and I was told all I could order was fish and chips.... not exactly what you'd come to the countryside for...
The staff offered me other quick preparation meals but everyone else had finished and it felt more of a burden. I was offered a free glass of wine but I had just asked for the bill instead. 20 minutes later... still no bill. When the bill finally arrived nothing was compensated and worse yet they had added drinks we hadn't ordered. 30 minutes after no food and initially asking for the bill, a bill was delivered still not reflecting our order but prices were roughly the same and we were so keen to leave by this point it wasn't worth raising.
A really disappointing meal... especially as I wasn't served any food despite...
