Tonight, I decided to treat myself to a meal out down at my local, The Golden Ball. Since being taken over by a Mother and Daughter team last November, I have had nothing but a good time in this pub and heard raves about the food. With plenty to choose from and dietary needs met if applicable, I started with battered brie wedges with a bit of salad and chutney. This definitely met my starter approval, small but not too small, appetising and something different from prawns or bread. They were mouth-watering. I then gave my full attention to my pint of Donnington craft lager, which I prefer over the Carlsberg as I find it less gassy and also more tongue pleasing. That's when my main came out. I'd order something you won't find everywhere and I certainly didn't regret my decision. I thoroughly enjoyed a gorgeous katsu chicken curry, a side of salad and sticky rice topped with a well-homemade onion bahji. Great drinks, locals, and food. If you get a chance, add the Golden Ball to your pub crawl or pub bucket list.

We enjoyed the wood stove fire while we waited for the kitchen to open for dinner. My sister and I shared the beef brisket cottage pie which was topped with mashed potatoes and had peas on the side. It was homemade, delicious and filling. The brisket was very similar to ground beef, but that was OK with us. My husband had the chicken pie which again was served with peas and mashed potatoes. He loved it and wanted to have it again the next night. The staff were very friendly and the locals were nice too. (We are tourists from the USA).

A nice local pub. There were some nice local ales available which were well kept. The friendly locals at the bar taught us to play 'spoof' - a game of guessing how many coins in total a group of players has in their hands, each hold coins in a clenched hand, ranging from none to the number of people in the group, those who guess correctly are eliminated and the last person in the game buys a round.

Stopped here for a drink while driving through the cotswolds. Friendly bar lady and pub is ok, obviously more for locals than tourists. We sat drinking our drinks and some local villagers were at the bar and talking very loudly. Their conversation was disgusting, starting with how gay people deserved Aids, and how aids came from black people from Africa got aids from sleeping with monkeys etc. (But all in vile racist/homophobic language). It carried to the point I couldn't listen any more so we left our drinks and left. Of course the pub cant control its customers conversations but this is more of a warning to any easily offended people who may be looking to stop...
