stopped here for a pint and a sandwich after a dog walk as the blackboard outside the pub proclaimed just writing on the board with chalk couldn't justify the quality of the food. they didn't have any sandwiches so I opted for a bowl of chips. honestly.... they obviously use exactly the same McCain frozen twiglets as McDonalds use. all that was missing was the little red cardboard box to put them in. sadly that's where the similarity ends because at McDonalds you get more in the box. complete and utter rip off and an affront to all establishments which take the time to peel, cut and fry a potato. it's hardly difficult. should you ever go in here and fancy a bowl of chips.... DON'T DO IT! have a bag of crisps instead, far better value for money and more effort has gone in to making them. bar staff were canny enough.

first of all, I wasn't offered a menu, your staff suggested a bowl of chips as an alternative to a sandwich. secondly I wasn't advised there was different types of bowl of chips. indeed the only information was given was that there was no brown sauce, only ketchup. Now... you can attempt to deflect the blame on appalling standard and pathetic portion of the chips I was served on me by ordering them in the first place all you like. the fact remains you should be ashamed of serving up something which would only half fill and rattle about in a McDonalds red box. my review is both fair and extremely accurate. a packet of crisps would indeed have been much...
Read moreWe went to the Royal Oak for a meal and a drink last Saturday and found it to be under new management, what a very pleasant surprise it was, the food and the greeting that we got were second to none. having read the previous reviews I was a little concerned that it would be less than good but the new owners could not have been more accomodating, the place was full but we were shown to a table on the upper eating area where we were presented with the menu for their special fish extravagnser. I had the salmon and my partner had the sea bream, all were perfectally cooked, this we followed with rhubarb crumble and coffee to finish. I only wish that I was not driving as I would like to have been able to sample some of their real ales but never mind my partner can drive next time !!! This hostillery is a must if you are in the area we will certainly be going back in the...
Read moreAs members of the Austin Healey Club South West we found ourselves in the position of having to find a new venue for our monthly ‘get together’ and annual meetings. What a find indeed! From the outset all of the staff have been helpful, friendly and accommodating - as well as a couple of meetings we have already held our AGM followed by 3 course dinner for all. All of our meals were delicious, plentiful, great value and served with smiles all round by the staff! As I write we are this evening meeting up again at The Royal Oak for our monthly social and are all looking forward to their wonderful hospitality and great beer! Thank you for looking after us so well and we very much look forward to a long and happy...
