I have been a loyal customer to this pub for several years, as have my family and friends in the local community. However I now feel compelled to tell everyone about the rudeness and appalling attitude of the staff that work there, as well as the poor management.
It was on my brother's 18th birthday that we decided to go to the local pub, as we went for mine. There were five of us eating and drinking, and suddenly at the end of the evening, the staff had the cheek and daring to come and take away two pints of half-full beer (that were ordered before the last orders bell). Upon explaining to the lady that the two people drinking those pints were currently in the toilet and would come back to finish them up, she immediately snapped at us in a very rude and juvenile manner, and promptly ran away with our paid pints.
It is not merely the cost of the beer that belonged to us upon us entering a contract with the pub as soon as we purchased the beer, but the point is that it was my brother's 18th birthday and they caused considerable grief to our family. Not only that but the obstinate manner of the girl who took them away. The manager, upon polite confrontation, did absolutely nothing. I suppose the real grief comes from the fact that the staff only took the drinks away because they wanted to get away 'early'.
It is quite shocking that they would treat members of the local community so badly, especially considering the fact that all the families in Maidenbower are close-knit and very familiar with each other.
I can safely say that after knowing several members of staff that have worked there over the years, and having lived and belonged to the community of Maidenbower for the last twenty years, I will NEVER be visiting them again- we are all very aggrieved. Let this be a warning to all, that it is not worth risking the happiness of a...
Read moreI recently had a booking for four at a restaurant, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a dirty table that clearly hadn't been cleaned from the previous guests. It was off-putting and immediately set a negative tone for our dining experience.
To make matters worse, the chairs were incredibly old and uncomfortable. They had clearly seen better days, and sitting in them felt like sinking into a wooden frame. It was not the kind of seating you'd expect in a decent restaurant, and it made it difficult to relax and enjoy our meal.
Speaking of the meal, I was disappointed to find that the food quality had significantly declined since my previous visits. One glaring example was the nachos. Instead of the delicious homemade version I remembered, they now served cheap store-bought crisps. It was a clear downgrade in taste and presentation.
Even the main dishes were underwhelming. The eggs, for instance, were overcooked, resulting in a dry and unappetizing texture. It was disheartening to see such a basic element of the meal mishandled. Overall, the dining experience fell far below my expectations.
On top of everything, the Doombar Ale, a brand I usually enjoy, was served in a rather vinagery state. It was a poor representation of the brand and left a sour taste in my mouth, both literally and figuratively.
Given these disappointing aspects, I can confidently say that I will not be in a rush to return to this restaurant. The dirty table, uncomfortable chairs, and decline in food quality were major letdowns. I hope the establishment takes these criticisms constructively and works towards improving their overall dining experience...
Read moreIf only you cleaned the menus and had a few experience staff... We have always loved this place and its location. Food and service has been up and down over the years but it's always been nice enough. The staff are all so young and so clueless about how to manage a food serving pub, not at all their fault, they're all very polite and well intentioned but you need someone to keep an eye on things like plates being removed before sweets and coffees land on your table. But the very worst thing that I find unpalatable is the menus, which my husband had commented on a few weeks ago but put down to perhaps a bad day. Every single menu today was covered in various unidentifiable stains of food and drink and who knows what else. There are rings on them and they all crunch on opening, I am sorry but that is pretty vile. My friend's menu was so stuck together she almost ripped it when trying to unfold it. It makes you fear for your health if that is how they deal with hygiene, but I can only hope it's front of house carelessness. The food is fine, if only you're able to sort out small but incredibly important details... I really hope so as you have a great building, gardens and location and we'd love to enjoy it...
