What a glorious end to a lovely day. Meeting up with family to walk and enjoy the trail, waterfalls and stepping stones. Nestled just a stone’s throw from the car park we found the Anglers rest. A large party that hadn’t prebooked we were accommodated in a suitable seating area. The location was ideal and we’re able to relax after dinner by the river to chat. They served a good selection of ale’s and the food was delicious. I had the steak and ale pie which came with (and I rarely think this) beautifully prepared veg fresh and not over cooked. The lamb shanks were tasty and tender with a rich gravy. Our table ordered a variety of dishes which included the steak and stilton pie and the childs lasagna. All was reasonably priced and my southern son in law was so shocked at the overall quality ‘you wouldn’t get this down our way - not for this price - might be worth moving up North’ Well done Anglers rest did...

My husband ordered a beef dish which was unappealing to the eye and had no flavour. I ordered the Angler's Ploughman as it seemed one of only two options for a vegetarian. How can you mess with a Ploughman? You just need good cheese, pickles and chutney, and good bread. Instead this ploughman's was mainly slabs of three sorts of meat with a few pieces of cheese and a small piece of bread. The one decent item was the carrot and coriander soup my son ordered (the only other option for vegetarians). My husband had thought that with the name Anglers rest there would be a variety of fish, both fish and smoked on the menu. When we were there there was no fish at all. Very...

We needed somewhere reasonable to eat on our return to Buxton from Chatsworth House.
Must say had a lovely meal with my family. Reasonably priced and delicious food. Plus Local beer from Farmers ales were also good. Staff were exceptional and very friendly, also opening a window without hesitation for us as it was a little warm inside.
The only downsides was a lack of veggie options on the menu, with veg lasagne and cheese and onion pie the only dishes available. But being a carnivore myself, I enjoyed the lovely Steak and Stilton pie whilst my son had the Steak and Ale pie and my wife opted for the Steak and Kidney pie. Definitely worth a diversion if doing the monsal Trail. Really enjoyed our experience and would...
