We visited the Pack Horse Inn while cycling in the Peaks and seeking out good beer. Overall, this is our best find. The beer is really exceptional if you want well kept cask ale with a landlord who knows what he's selling. This was combined with a traditional local pub setting. We also ate and while the menu was reduced to help manage the issues associated with COVID19 we wouldn't have noticed the reduction if we weren't told! The home made pies hit the spot on a cold windy day cycling trails and hills. If you want good beer in a peak district countryside setting then the Pack Horse Inn is the place to visit. Highly recommended for . (One of the beers I've pictured is cloudy, that's because it's unfined and unfiltered, which is by design of the brewer not a problem, in fact to be recommended.)

We visited on a quiet Thursday evening for a small family meal. It was a rainy windy night and the place was fairly empty, but the logburner was going and we got a friendly welcome. We had already booked a table but probably wasn't necessary that night! We have a few dietary requirements (gluten-free and onion-free) and they were super helpful in providing suitable replacements. So many places will just remove the offending items and leave a half-empty plate! I had the Steak, Guiness and Stilton pie and it was delicious. The GF Classic burger was immense, and had a lovely salad to accompany it. All was good, in a warm and friendly environment.

Everything you want from a country pub. Friendly genuinely warm welcome. A couple of local farmers having a well deserved lunchtime break. Good selection of cask ales, we were lucky there was Stancil Tom's Mild on the pump and that was worth the visit alone. Simple pub menu to cater for all tastes. We had four different main dishes between us and everything was cooked to perfection with generous portions. All in this is a great pub offering fantastic food, drink and service and well deserves your custom.

Visited last summer while staying locally, and decided to book in for lunch while in the area again over Easter. Had the steak and Stilton pie, and it was delicious. Generously filled, generously proportioned, and served with possibly the best chips I've eaten in my almost 5 decades. Although it does come in it's own dish, there is pastry all the way around, unlike a lot of places these days. (A dish of meat wearing a pastry hat is not a pie! 😁)

I can't comment on the ales as I don't drink it, but the local lager is well worth a try.

Prices are reasonable, and the staff are all friendly, welcoming, and polite.

The beer garden is a great place to relax in the sunshine, but if the weather is against you, the pub itself is a cosy...

Had stayed at the cottage next door, so we had 2 meals on separate nights. Best to book a table as gets busy. Friendly staff and nice, helpful landlord. First meal I had the Stilton and chicken and it was lovely, not over powering and came with chips. Second meal I had a bbq chicken and cheese wrap but found it was smothered in way too much sauce but still tasty. This also came with chips (chips are AMAZING and reminded me if my grandma's home made northern chips!). My oartner had fish and chips and it was delicious. Very dog friendly and took my little dachshund in on a couple occasions. Nice beer garden and easy to park. Highly recommend if...
