stayed in the campsite! for three nights this was very good, and we did have a wonderful time. just a few little things that made it not so good (although for a cheap few nights in a great setting we were overall happy!): no ice block freezer, very very low water pressure at washing up sinks, the pitches were quite small (struggled to fit our car on the pitch when we had neighbours either side), temperature was tempremental in the showers. however, considering the pub is closed and the site itself seems pretty self-operating (we did not see a single staff member our entire stay, but toilets were cleaned daily...), it was perfectly adequate, though could have been better :) pulling out onto a busy 50mph whenever we wanted to go somewehre was certainly an experience :D

Random drop in on a Thursday @ 1pm for ‘some food’ before driving back to gods country (NW England 😉) Sweet Jesus what a lucky find ‘the burger’ aka ‘heavenly slabs of cow accompanied by onions caramelised on the thighs of angels’ was unbelievably tasty. Probably one of the best I’ve had thus far in my 40+ years! Highly recommended, so I’d the chicken version my partner went for along with the Jalapeño poppers that set a little fire in your laughing-tackle. The service was excellent (shout out to the young lady that served us) and huge compliments to whomever dreamt up the menu and the chef for nailing it. 👍🏼

we loved it, we were staying on the campsite and had booked the pub for Saturday but we enjoyed it so much, we went on Sunday as well. The food was excellent and the staff were really good. It was really accommodating to our party's three dogs as well. Do try the pizza, it's fab. Take your appetite with you as well, the portions are very generous

Liked: What a delightful camping site 😁 We stayed here in our camper van with awning and asked for a quiet flat pitch and got exactly that plus with beautiful views and was so perfect for what we were wanting that we ended booking on for a longer stay than was planned.

Chris and Adam were so welcoming and checked on us daily to see how we were, giving us lots of helpful advise and recommendations which was greatly appreciated.

The campsite itself was a really lovely size, not overcrowded, it had great facilities which were all clean and well lit and the showers were nice and hot and a good size.

The site itself was situated behind a really lovely pub and pizzaria with a beer garden and play area and was in close walking distance from other pubs if you needed them.

It was also in a great location to go on plenty of walks and withing a short driving distance of some really lovely places to visit like Hartington, a really sweet little country village, Bakewell, a good size town, Matlock bath, which had a lovely holiday feel and charm and Matlock as well as other places to visit that were close by.

We took our own campfire but these were available also to hire and the onsite shop was extremely handy when we needed to buy more kindling and logs for it.

It was also a dog friendly site ( to be kept on leads) which was great for our little dog but also lovely not to have other dogs running all over the site which also kept the pitches clean.

We will definitely be back again not just because of it being a beautiful site to stay on but also because of the extra effort that both Chris and Adam put in to make our stay and enjoyable one.

Disliked: I know that there is usually something that you dislike but with this site, we really can't think...

Liked: A very warm welcome and the site was well kept. The toilets, showers and washing up area were always clean. The fact that the facilities were unisex wasn't a problem whatsoever and we had wondered if it would be, but it was fine. We ate in the pub and had rack of ribs and my friend had chicken and it was amazing and the service was excellent. The pub has a lovely atmosphere we sat in a quaint quiet room with an old fireplace away from the TV by choice. This is a good site for families and there were children in neighbouring tents. There is a bridle path running down the side of the campsite where we were able to walk our dog off the lead as it was quiet and is car free. There is a donkey Sanctuary next door but check opening times. Bakewell is about a 15 minute drive away. Don't let the unisex facilities put you off.

Disliked: The views weren't what we hoped for as the surrounding fields are all quite flat but it was still very nice. The only drawback for us is that we wanted to have a drink on an evening and we were very surprised that everyone seemed to have gone to bed at 10pm and we felt as though we had to whisper not to disturb anyone in neighbouring tents. Maybe adults only would suit us better so we aren't so worried about waking up sleeping children. We were very respectful of this. The only other drawback was that all day Thursday the grass was being cut and the following morning all we could hear was a strimmer. This was quite loud and went on for a long time but I suppose we were just unlucky to have stayed when the grass...
