"Buyer Beware!"

I'd like to be more complimentary than this is likely to be, but I must share our experience of visiting The Miner's Arms in Carsington on Sunday 21st Aug 2022.

Approximately two years ago we visited and had a superb meal - good portion size, well cooked food, and terrific value for money, so, we booked for Sunday lunch.

Firstly, be VERY CAREFUL using the website as an indicator of the quality, variety, and price of the Sunday lunch you are likely to receive. It is not carvery - the meal is delivered on a set plate. The price is ÂŁ15 not ÂŁ12 as stated on the website - extra anything is a min of ÂŁ3 extra not as shown on the website (mashed potatoes, gravy boat, etc) Certainly, this Sunday, there was only turkey, gammon, or pork available - no beef or lamb.

Now our meal: We ordered turkey dinner and when it was delivered, the turkey was actually 3 small pieces of turkey roll - not real turkey slices, we received a dish of vegetables that was 3" diameter and 3" deep - this was for two people and when shared resulted in 2 sprigs of broccoli, 2 carrots each (each carrot was 2" long) and about 5 petit pois pods each. I was so shocked, I asked the waitress if there was another vegetable pot coming and whether they were per person!!! On our plate, we had a reheated (pre-frozen) Yorkshire pudding and each plate had 3 roast potatoes (each one was the size of half of a new potato). The block of stuffing was 2" x 2" and was stodgy, and, to top it off, the gravy was that weak it looked like the sink water that the pots had been washed in. It was like greasy water with gravy powder floating around in it!

I took my first bit of the meal and the meal was just warm - like it had been plated and just left out!

Anyway, one of the staff came around to ask how our meal was and I shared my feedback directly - she was simply dumbstruck - never even suggested that the meal be taken away or warmed up in any way - nothing!

At the end of the meal (really, in hindsight, we should have stood up and walked out and given the establishment the food back, it was so poor) I went to pay and was given the price of one drink off the total price!

The staff member said she would pass my feedback on but said that it had been particularly busy and that might have hindered things. The point is - they were offering the dining spaces and charging for the number of diners they'd had through so that was no excuse! They shouldn't be maximising profit over customer satisfaction, as they clearly are doing.

It does appear that it might now be owned by a bigger business, so it isn't concerned about these things.

Unfortunately for The Miner's Arms, I'm local, not just "passing tourist trade" and so they have lost out on future family meals and return trade; I shall also share my experience with other locals - not the sort of feedback a company needs as we head into unfavorable...

Wow what an amazing find, we first found this gem back in November whilst out walking and loved the atmosphere and they let our dogs come in with out a fuss. The food was amazing and there is so much to choose from! We had the meatball subs and the fish finger sub. In the fish finger sub you got two good size piece of fish (much better than your bird’s eye fish fingers) tartare sauce, and mushy pies and chips. All you really needed was the curry sauce! The meatball sub had good flavour and filled to the brim again this was served with chips.

We came back on Saturday, this time planned so we booked ahead as we know that it is popular and so pleased we did as it was very busy. We also brought two friends with us and they brought their dog. Again the atmosphere and the waiter was fantastic apologies I didn’t catch his name! We had meatball subs x2, fish finger sub and this time I had the Saag Aloo. A lovely curry with plenty of flavours and not over spicy, served with rice, naan bread, popadoms and onion bhaji. All presented very nicely, it soon vanished.

There was at least 7 others items that looked amazing and I wanted to try abut have been told the menu is changing. I am not quite sure when we will be back but definitely if we are in the area this our...

Looks great, terrible menu in the week during the day only pizza on what's that about loads of waitresses no chefs maybe. Sat down saw the menu left. One woman was rude as I don't use the NHS track and trace I just sign in. Its sound for people with kids. Not ideal if you like abit of peace. Can't comment on drinks or food as left when told it was pizza only after asking for the rest of the menu as the table next to us had the full menu. Clearly my point is proven by your reply we were not informed before we sat down and I clearly state I can't review the food or drink. My points are valid it was family friendly and loud. You're rude I'm guessing you're the lady that snarled at me for the track and trace. I highly recommend the Red lion in hognaston if you're reading my review just down the road. I've reviewed plenty of places in the area since moving here I highly recommend the greyhound in Cromford as well check out my reviews. Have a lovely day owner of the miners Arms and FYI children and the...

We’re staying locally and popped in for a drink. Really lovely quaint pub, heating on and fires roaring, which made it super cosy on a cold winters day. We ended up staying for food and I’m so glad we did. Ordered pie of the day and fish and chips from the specials menu. Both meals were absolutely delicious! The pie was homemade and was packed with the steak and stout filling. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, the chips were yummy and to top it off the gravy was proper tasty and not any instant rubbish! The fish was super fresh and seasoned perfectly. The homemade tartare sauce was so tasty and the homemade curry sauce was sublime! The service was great too, really friendly, helpful staff. So hard to find lovely pubs with delicious homemade food but this place hits the spot and doesn’t disappoint. Will definitely be going back.

This is just the kind of pub you ‘tell all your friends about’ and we have been! We were recommended The Miners Arms by friends who had been here several times and sent us photos of the vegan options. We spent the afternoon walking round Carsington Water with the dogs and walked up here from the visitor centre. We actually ordered too much food and had to get a pizza box to take some home as the pizzas were huge. We loved this place so much and are planning to come back really soon. We tried all of the vegan options but sadly didn’t have any room for dessert. The dogs were also really well catered for and loved their pick and mix. The real ales were also fabulous with too many to choose from! Hope to see you soon and thankyou so much to all the staff who were so attentive and friendly. The food was fabulous guys.
