Having booked a group of us to stay in September 2013, some camping, some in rooms as we have done for the last 3 years without problems, the new owners made us feel less than welcome. My £15 steak was not medium as requested but inedible and seemed as if it had been microwaved. One of our party ordered lasagne and it arrived at the table completely charred and black, she was told "that's how it comes" and when she asked for another it didn't appear. She got a refund for the food, grudgingly after asking an hour later.We were asked to move into a back room away from the (quite empty) bar area and because we refused were treated very coldly for the rest of the evening. We left earlier than planned, as did the rest of the group, having to change venue the following morning instead of having a relaxed time. Some of our party had travelled from Holland and Scotland and the reception we received was shameful. We will not be spending any further hard earned money at this establishment. I haven't rambled on about the state of the rooms, toilets or showers as I had no first hand experience of them this time around, suffice to say other guests were unhappy and there could do to be a few improvements. One pub in Bakewell wanted £89 for a pokey room with a separate bathroom along the corridor. The Waterloo offered a lovely sized room with bathroom which, although a bit dated was very clean and tidy with wonderful countryside views. The cost for this double room with delicious full English Breakfast was £69 and this is high season.The owner and his lovely wife were very kind and helpful and we enjoyed a great atmosphere chatting with the locals and their dogs,||The bar/dining room featured a log fire and comfy seating area for the TV.
