Mixed review I'm afraid. We had lunch here today and having not been before was pleasantly surprised when we pulled up to a beautiful old building with lots of period character and lovely garden frontage. We drove down the side to the car park and the restaurant entrance which is via the rear of the building. It was off putting to see lots of rubbish outside the restaurant entrance and cigarette butts everywhere! it looked really shabby especially for a food establishment. The Chef was also out there smoking which customers don't really want to see. We went inside and first impressions are such a lovely interior with loads of period charm , real fires (not lit though) and comfortable seating. We were the only ones in there and the waitress told us we could sit where we liked so we chose a lower fairy lit area which was quite pretty. We asked if the music could be turned down a little as it was really loud and being played for the staffs enjoyment not ours. The restaurant had no heating and we had to sit with our coats on to eat as it was quite chilly and on closer inspection the place could have done with a good clean as it was very dusty and grimey in places ,windows/floors etc needed a good clean.
Anyway enough of the negative the food when it finally arrived was really nice and the menu had some lovely dishes catering for everyones tastes at reasonable prices. We'd heard this 1903 restaurant has recently been acquired by the owners of the New Inn at Walton which is one of our favourite eating places, the decor , service and food there is exceptional so hopefully if they have purchased this place their standards will soon...
Read moreTerrible customer service, poor food and outrageous prices, staff not trained and argumentative if you have an issue with anything 🙈 food served raw and reheated and charge silly money. So excited to support a local business, having been up for a few drinks on a number of occasions since opening we thought we would come for Sunday lunch, nobody was answering the phone so thought we would pop up and if we couldn’t get in have a drink instead. Went to the bar and was pretty quiet and asked if it would be okay to grab a seat and some lunch, lady behind bar not very friendly and struggling to smile, but advised yes but may be a wait. I thanked her and said we didn’t mind. To cut a long story short, we were charged a huge amount for raw meat, shrivelled reheated roasties and burnt yorkies. Nobody asked how the food was, plates And empty glasses sat there for 40 minutes whilst we chatted to a lovely couple who we met. Staff and managers walked past us many times and didn’t clear anything. We went to the bar to pay and asked if everything was okay, as I went to respond the manager turned away and started speaking to staff. So I thought I would email when we got home. We paid and departed Got home feeling really upset about it all and privately emailed them, didn’t want any money back just an apology really, or why they treated us this way. The manager was argumentative and everything i said was dismissed. Really sad about this we eat out a lot and only wanted some lovely local hospitality. In this current climate we will not be returning and rather spend our hard earned...
Read moreThe food was delicious and the pub itself really cosy and clean. We had a lovely time until it came to the bill.
We had booked, paid deposits and sent preorders in for 4 people. However due to unforeseen circumstances a member of the party couldn’t make it and we didn’t know until we got there.
We told the staff as soon as we found out so they could take her food from the list. We were told it was not a problem.
The starters came but mine came late and only when I asked for it. One of my friends wasn’t asked if she would like a drink either - she had to wait until the waitress finally brought my starter to the table.
When it came to pudding, only mine was brought out and my friend again had to ask for hers as it didn’t seem to be on its way.
When we got the bill we found the main for our absent friend was still on it. I asked for it to be removed and was told it couldn’t be as it had already been cooked even though it wasn’t brought out. I thought that was what the deposit was for. So we paid for it but never received.
What I really didn’t like was the judgement the bar woman passed on my absent friend saying it was her who had let us down. She hadn’t let anyone down and I don’t think the staff in a pub should be judging others. It is for this reason and their unwillingness to accomodate, along with the shoddy service that I...
