I played the Robin Hood course today. I have played here around 15 times over the last few years. The quality of the course has almost always been suspect, but I expected that in the time they were closed they would have addressed some of this.
They have sorted the first 2 holes and with a but of an extension of the 11th (and a suspect extension of the 15th) it's now a par 70.
It was great to get back out playing golf.
However.... The course is not in a condition I could call anything but poor. The fairway length is more like rough, the bunkers have almost no sand in and so are like playing off tarmac, and the greens are worse than ever - bald patches and cracks in the turf. Just not cared for.
All in all, if I was the owner, I'd be questioning what course maintenance has actually been happening in the 2 months they were closed. I will not go back to Owston Hall. They clearly don't focus enough on any kind of quality when it comes to the...
Read moreGolf course is challenging but NOT a championship course. Nothing like with poorly kept bunkers and shortened holes following vandalism to 5 greens (18m ago now!). There is plenty of land and scope to build something special. Once the temporary greens are gone and course maintenance improved then golf will be a pleasure but beware the rough, which is penal.
Pro and assistant very unhelpful - not allowed to take a buggy to the practice area (several hundred yards away). When we discovered that the assistant had overcharged for boxes of balls by £11, the pro said "well he is doing his job and making money for me". We didn't get a refund. Owner / manager unapologetic and not bothered that the card on the website describes a course that is no longer there.
Restaurant and bar are good though and the rooms have been refurbished to a...
Read moreSpent a golfing weekend here in early June 2019. Waa greeted by a very welcoming receptionist who was very helpful. Rooms are spacious with a pleasant feel. The 18 hole main course has one major problem. No hole numbers or (with the exception of the 6th and 11th) no guidance to the next tee. There is somewhat of a mapped layout on the scorecard but if youve not played the couse before its difficult to follow. On the first round, we spent too much time debating which hole to play next when a simple sign would suffice! The round on Sunday was a far better experience as we knew the layout of the course. The choice of food is not expansive but adequate. The bar prices are relatively...
