I like The Green Tree, I think it's a great "pub food" resturant located in a very convenient area. When we have guests we often pop along for a pub lunch. Unfortunately yesterday's visit didn't go so well! We had our dog with us, a very quite house trained spaniel. I am aware dogs are not allowed in the resturant so I asked the young lad on the bar if we could have table 14, located at one of the many patio doors, this would enable our party of 4 to sit at a clean resturant table while the dog laid outside on the patio. He said he could see no problem. After we were seated and arranging our first round of drinks a rather sharp young lady came over and told us as we had a dog we had to sit out side, she couldn't quite grasp the dog was outside (laying in the sun). It transpired the young lady Bex was the duty manager/waitress and the young barman was over ruled and we were told to sit outside. The only tables outside were dirty old picnic tables which had wrappers and cigarette ends stuck between the slats on the top. We asked Bex if we could have the table clean and she gave it a curtsy wipe. We picked the debris out the cracks and cleaned it with our serviettes. While we had the attention of Bex I asked her why we couldn't sit inside at the patio doors with out dog outside on the patio, she quickly snapped it's the law, I informed her I had 35 years in the catering service (Regional Director for Sodexo) and there are no laws covering dogs in resturant, there is legislation covering dogs in catering establishments, this is food preparation and storage areas, I suggested it's probably company policy and she quickly said its her managers policy, I asked her if the policy covered or stipulated a distance the dogs had to be from the redturant as we have moved quite literally 4 feet, 48 inches? I personally thought this was an unnecessary confrontation, it was 4pm, the bar was no longer busy, the carvery was almost closed and there were no more than a dozen people in the resturant, as we had chosen a table in the corner next to a patio door and the dog was outside I thought this was more than adequate. It's not that we just turned up and sat down we cleared it with the staff member at the bar. What did become very clear, very quickly is the staff need to know the difference between legislation and policy. They need to be able to look at a situation and make sensible decisions and even compromise, and lastly as a manager Bex needs to know the 4 stages of cleaning a table (pre-clean, main clean, sanitise and air dry) as per the food safety act of 1990, update June 2023.

We visited from Durham and decided to order online for pickup. The online ordering process was easy, though some items were unavailable. It was inconvenient that we couldn't order mayonnaise or ketchup to go, especially since we were staying in a nearby lodge. When we arrived to collect our food, the instructions were unclear. We mistakenly entered through the wrong door due to a lack of signage. After finding the correct collection point, we waited with another family, expecting to be acknowledged, but no one greeted us for about ten minutes. A server eventually asked if we were there for a collection but seemed confused about our order. Despite placing the order at 3:00 PM for a collection time of 5:30pm our food wasn't ready until 5:50PM, which was frustrating. When we finally received our order, the sauces had leaked, the chips were terrible, and the chicken was dry. On a positive note, the calzone was delicious, and my wife enjoyed her burger. **Summary:** We had a disappointing experience with unclear pickup instructions, long wait times, and poor food quality, although the calzone and burger were good.

A well established eatery and pub, The Green Tree Inn is a Stonehouse pubs outlet, meaning you can expect typical chain pub fayre. The standard array of both alcoholic and soft drinks are available at the small bar, with this being a Pepsi pub (no Coca-Cola for a change). Meals range from a full stone baked pizzeria, through burgers, grills, and a full carvery offering. Small plates and light bites are available for little ones and those counting calories, but timings for these may be limited so best to check in advance. Tables can be booked via phone, web, or app and is advisable during busy periods (Sundays and Bank Holidays). There are a decent amount of tables, with the most common being 4-seater square tables, though there are a few larger to accommodate bigger groups. There is also a separate function/dining room which tends to be opened up on Sundays for overflow carvery seating. Overall the quality of food is pretty good for the price, especially when you consider that other than meat and immediate extras the rest of the carvery is self-service, so you can load up as you like.

My friend and I went for lunch on Friday the food was cold even though the food had been left underneath the heat lamp. The stuffing was hard and so crispy was not able to get my fork in it. But unfortunately my friend said don’t complain it will course a seen, the worst thing is my friend persuaded me to go as I had an experience in the same place about 4 or 5 year ago and said I’d never go back she said it would be fine now. If anything it’s worse the staff are rude and on helpful. A old lady but wanted one scoop of ice cream the waitress made a big scene and it was very embarrassing for the lady she only wanted one scoop as she couldn’t manage the two . It wasn’t a big deal she could have been given a child’s portion, everyone could see how small and frail the lady was. What happened to the customer being right it was embarrassing, I fully understand they have policies but the lady wanted to pay, one member of staff told her she could have a child’s portion it just was awful I just thought the waitress was well out of order. ( how do you feel about your grandma would you like her to be treated like that ) I can go with other things that I wasn’t happy with but all I can say is my main concern is the staff they talk down to you they are miserable rude and totally disrespectful to the elderly, there also was a lady wanting a take away the food is a set menu, the woman was say what veg she want , I would have told her to stuff it the way the waitress spoke to her. I am not going back even if it takes me...

Went tonight 27th Jan for sons birthday. Booked table for 4 for 7pm. Went to the bar and ordered drinks. Advised the lady we had booked a table and could she tell us where we were sat. She pointed to a table and advised us we were there. We settled down to look at the menu. Just as we were looking another waitress appeared and said " you can't sit here!" We responded with we had made a booking and that was where we had been guided. She disappeared then reappeared and said "your going to have to move I am afraid I have another booking here" I advised it was very inconvenient to be forced to move after we had booked and been directed there. She said " look I have 6 things on the go at the moment" like it was my fault. We moved and I then saw said waitress who I now know to be called " Emily" slagging us off to another waitress then stopped and flushed as she saw me looking. I went to order food and asked to speak to a manager. The lady behind the bar informed me she was a supervisor and could she sort things out. I explained the issue and said I found her rudeness and the fact she was slagging me off right in front of me to be highly unprofessional. She advised me she would speak to said waitress. She also went out of her way to make a fuss of my son who had a special birthday plate written in chocolate which he loved. All in all a good night marred at the start by an unprofessional...
