We went for an evening meal on June 16, 2021. As ever, the food and atmosphere was lovely. BUT...the service was terrible. We were outside and no-one seemed to be in charge. The staff were helpful and nice but maybe the problem was that there weren’t enough of them. We were sat for 20 minutes before we were even offered a menu and I only managed to get that by attracting the attention of one of the waitresses. The staff didn’t appear to have a designated zone to look after - again maybe a problem caused by three waiters looking after a large amount of tables that were mostly seating between four to six people each - and consequently the service was a shambles. One guy sat next to us waited 20 minutes for a beer that was warm by the time it arrived, then the young waiter who served him said he’d be back to take their food order - and didn’t come back!

I’d think twice about going back, only because the service was so utterly terrible. I hope that this can be...

We settled here last night because we needed a local pub and the website looked really nice. I definitely wouldn't have called this a gastropub, it was quite outdated and the food really wasn't very good. The steak and ale pies were dry and over cooked and the burger had no flavour and also overcooked. The portion sizes were also huge, which is great if you're starving but it was too much. I think if the food was a bit better they wouldn't need to fill the plate to the brim with chips and salad. We had a very attentive waitress which was great, but she was quite abrupt verging on a bad attitude so we felt a bit scared that we hadn't made a food decision for when she returned! Overall I would say it was fairly pricy for the location and quality of the food just wasn't good enough. Like someone said, it'll do if you're stuck for somewhere to eat but wouldn't advise deliberately...

Freezing cold in pub, sat with coats on. Went with 4 girls for lunch, one being celiac - everything with Gluten Free next to it on menu is not - they only have 1 chip fryer which everything is fried in. We said that this wouldn't do and waitress said that it depends on severity of celiac, most people can tolerate some gluten (total lack of education on allergies which is dangerous). Only 4 of us on table and 1 meal was forgotten. The burger came very blue - which is fine if we were asked for it that way (we didn't nor were asked how we would like it). We left totally dissatisfied and out of pocket for rubbish. Went onto a warm pub with good service, good wine and gluten free...

I have been coming to the maids head for about 7 years. In that time I've eaten in and had lots to drink. I can say that I've always had a pleasant experience and it's for that reason that I will come here many more times. There are two sections of the Pub one for eating and one for drinking. On sunny days the garden and the front of the pub are beautiful places to sit and relax and take in the busyness of Wiken ;) The carpark is small and can get full quickly. There's not a lot of parking on the side streets

We booked a table and no issues. Had a nice burger with fresh vegetables on the food and salad was fresh. I liked the chunky chips and everything felt premium. Only let down was where we were seated. Would have preferred another table and should have asked. Has a car park and great fireplace. Would definitely recommend.

We were a large group who walked in without a reservation on a Saturday night. The friendly staff quickly arranged a couple of tables together for us. I had the sea bass and a cheese platter. Beautifully made and delicious. I would definitely go back again if I were close by
